Help! Our rather wonderful Outwell Sleeping Pod has developed a horrible case of the moulds.

We had a morning of dew on the last day of our hols and despite thinking we'd dried the tent off..... clearly we hadn't.

The rest of the tent is (now) fine, but the large sleeping pod has patches of mould, some of which seems quite ingrained.

We've followed the advice of using Milton, but this doesn't seem to shift it. Also emailed Outwell, but the response back was more related to cleaning the outside of the tent.

A couple if questions.....

Would it be possible to soak the pod in the bath with a higher concentration of Milton for a longer period of time?

Another idea that's been floated, but we are both too terrified to do it,is to put the pod into the washing machine on a silk/delicates wash (EEEK)

The alternative is to buy a new pod, but that's looking pretty costly.

Any help/ suggestions/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

People have used the bath and washing machine methods and suffered no ill effects. Maybe go with the bath option first and then see how it goes.

Weve put ours in both the bath and the washing machine (cool wash NO SPIN)before and had no ill effects. Milton will kill the mould but tends not to remove the stains. If you want to risk it you will have to try something stronger to remove the stains

I take it you mean the inner tent bit that hangs up and you sleep in?

If so, I have 2 which are not mouldy but really stinky. Was thinking of just buying some new ones but I might actually just give them a go in the washing machine and see what happens! I'll report back...

Thanks,

Kevin

I sprayed one with Dettol Mould and Mildew remover left it for 5 minutes than rinsed and rinsed and rinsed then stuck it in the washer on a quick wash with a bit of bio powder. Got rid of all the mould and stains and smelled lovely.

It was that or chuck it so no contest really. It will take any colour out of the fabric though so it's your choice.

Thanks everyone

All really helpful advice and feel much more reassured about taking a bit of an "industrial" approach 17

The fabric is white, very thin and the bottom is grey nylon so I suppose even if there is a little colour change, it's not going to be very noticeable.

Hopefully the next few sunny days will give us time to sort and dry

Hi

Just to say that we soaked the pod for a couple of hours in some dettol mould and mildew remover and then rinsed under the shower......... worked an absolute treat. All th mould has gone and we now have a super clean smelling pod.

Thanks for the recommendation
