Having just ordered a new tent and had a nightmare with a certain outdoorsy place I thought I'd share the info I got here in the north east this week. I was in a big store looking at tents when I was approached by a lovely lady who advised me to go to a local "argos" bargain outlet in a rural town nearby where the tents are a 1/4 of the price and Outwell do them under the "vacanza" name & not the Nevada M etc that we were looking at.
It turns out that the vacanza range have only a 2500hh rating which is no good for hardy camping as you maybe know?
They look good in the box and at £100 for a 5 man tent I bet they've moved a good few but it wasn't for us. We bought our Nevada M + front awning to replace our 2007 Montana 6 now that our kids are 12 & 14 and may not like camping over the next 5 years or so, so we're down sizing a little :)
I don't know if that was known but it certainly isn't the bargain I was after & hope it helps others looking for a new outwell tent :)

A 2500HH is perfectly fine for UK camping as a 1500HH is considered waterproof in the UK. Some friends of ours bought a "Vacanza" 2 years ago for a bargain price and its stood up to everything the British weather has thrown at it including the Jubilee storms this year. The ever popular Vango Icarus only had a 2000HH when its was first intoduced

So you're dismissing an entire range of tents, simply because the HH is 2500?  I think I'd rather listen to the people who have actually used them and reviewed them in this site  rather than go by "your view"!  The lowest score in the reviews is 9 out of 10 - they can't be that bad can they?

Most budget tents from Halfords, Argos, etc... only have a 2000HH.  2500 is more than sufficient.

oops my bad sorry! what I meant to say was the vacanza's are being sold as replicas of the nevada m's (so I've been told) which have 4000hh so I was pointing out that these vacanza's are not identical and have a lesser rating which in my opinion is why they're a lot cheaper. I pointed it out trying to be helpful and not dismissive of them but I prefer my outwell tents as they've never let me down and do what they say they do! I've seen piles of "halfords" type tents at camp-sites in the lakes after a stormy bank holiday after they've blown away or ripped/leaked or whatever.
It's up to you who you listen too as to reviews of tents but I go my own experience so we'll have to agree to disagree on what's recommended and what's right but I do notice that 2 ppl have replied and both have outwell tents ;)
I just hope the information helps somebody who thinks they're getting an identical replica cheaply :)

Sorry to offend anyone with my opinions I do wish I'd kept them to myself but that's what forums are for :)

I would be interested to know which model Vacanza was being sold as a replica of the Nevada M as I have yet to come across one and it would be a steal at £100

Calm down dear

The Vacanza range was an Outwell range made specifically for Argos, with slightly lower specs and prices to reflect this.  They were never "sold as replicas" of the Nevada M.  Sorry, but you're wrong....

I thought that the Vacenza was the same as the Virginia 5 which was made specially for Yeomans to sell ( but had 3000hh) I think itnis just outwell doing a gelert and making tents for the 'high street/ mass market) .

If the Vacenza is anything like the Ginny (despite the slightly lesser Hh) then it would be fab tent at that price. (also I think the vacenza has steel poles so you trade lower HH and steels for higher HH and flex poles on the Ginny ! Love my Ginny!)
Also you gotta like blue tents lol
........so lots of ifs and buts, but not a bad little weekend tent ......

The "Vacanza" is a range of tents made by Outwell not a specific tent. There was the Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottowa and Toronta all based on Outwell/Easy Camp designs plus a whole range of accessories.

The Vacanza Monteal that our friends bought was based on the Nevada 4/Exporer the listed sizes were however 10cm smaller all round. Poles, bedrooms and all the fittings were standard Outwell and from what we could see it was just the flysheet that had the lower HH of 2500 as opposed to the Nevada 4 which was 3000HH and they paid the bargain price of £99

I don't really understand the point you're making? Someone in a shop told you to go to Argos to look at tents, you didn't like the look of them so are sticking with what you have? I'm not site what the learning point is for others...there are loads of tents out there some suit some people, some suit others.

As for HH, 2500mm is more than sufficient, 1500mm was always the usual standard and IMO 1500mm performs fine in the UK and in torrential French downpours.

...and no, I don't own an Outwell, never have and I doubt I ever will!

We bought a Vacanza Winnipeg 6 from argos last year for £230 reduced from £375. Its a fantastic tent. We downsized from a SUNCAMP 400SE trailer tent which was huge, great once it was up but used to take an age to erect and because of all the space, we used to take everything but the kitchen sink! We decided we wanted to get back to the camping style we used to enjoy so much on a less grander scale. We have not been disappointed with the Vacanza. It was up in 20 minutes and within 45 mins we were set up, sat down and downing our first holiday beer! It rained quite heavily on a couple of days and the vacanza kept us bone dry! This year we have bought the Vango Artemis 600 canopy/extension for the front, for a bit of extra space (unfortunately Vacanza dont do a canopy, but as the dimensions are more or less the same we have been assured that with a wee teak here and there, the vango canopy will be fine) ,its mainly to keep the kitchen stuff out of the main tent..off for a week to try it out in a couple of days, can't wait!! Cant recommend the Vacanza Winnipeg 6 highly enough!! :-).
