Hi all, we are looking for some advice. We are away at the moment in our Gelert Lakesbury 5 - great size and layout for us but the problem is the following- not very good in the wind, moves around a lot and very noisy - we are not over confident that the poles are good enough? Also our lovely Greyhound is spooked by the noise etc. We have decided to change our tent we get home - any advice from our fellow campers? We would like around the same size 380 x 480 and would prefer 2 beds (1x 3 bed and 1 x 2 bed) we would like to have a cover over the door to stop rain coming in when entering the tent and would like steel poles. We have been looking at the Outwell Nevada M - can anyone tel me how that performs in the wind? Will look forward to any suggestions, thanks all J xx

Have you thought about polycotton? A lot quieter in the wind.Also cooler in summer, warmer in the cooler months.
The poles.I would go for steel poles.
Now all you have to work out is your budget!

We had an Outwell Oakland XL and suffered all the same issues that you are experiencing. We sold it on our return from our last trip and bought a poky cotton tent from Obelink. The difference is astounding!

Vango Calisto..you can find a good price on the well known internet auction site...Best about 170 quid I think...It's bigger than it looks in the picture.

iv just bought on wednesday a polycotton tent - the outwell Trout Lake 4 and i bought the extension too for it. its on at an amazing price at yeomans just now and if you use the code yeoaff6 - u get a further 6% off the price. i paid 578.00 for the tent, the extension and the carpet and am very pleased as the tent alone is normally around the 600 mark and the extension was always around 249.00 and the carpet roundabout 60 ish - so iv got a 900.00 setup for 578.00!

iv already got another polycotton tent with steel poles and they are so much quieter than a nylon/polyester tent - not silent tho as the material still moves - but the material is very heavy in comparison so its not as flappy if that makes sense.

just be aware they are heavier to put up and bigger to store - they dont scrunch up like nylon/ polyester tents do.

but once you ve had one its kind of hard to go back - although i still have a kampa minnis4 that iv only just bought for overnighters and id luv an outwell maritsa and a calisto in my collection lol


by the way - if you are interested in the vango calisto -   outdoormegastore have a special edition of it in their sale for 299.99 its like the standard calisto but it has an extended living area which might be perfect for your needs and it has steel poles too - but is quite a bit more than a standard calisto which is about 180.00 and you can use the calisto extension on both tents. - they are not polycotton though but do have steel poles. or for about 80.00 more you can have the steel poled, polycotton trout lake like iv just bought!
