Anyone had any difficulty pitching this tent? The middle set of poles are **really** difficult to get into the holes. 1st time last Sat was hard, but this time today was impossible (tent was wet)....

Anyone else had this issue or do i have a duff tent/pole combination?

How are you pitching the tent???

I always found that starting with the front set of poles then working backwards worked best for me.

it may also be worth trying putting the uprights into the holes first before putting the cross section in place.

rather than a duff tent/pole combination i would think it is a pitching problem

I have the smaller Escala 4, and I would attach the main part of the second frame first before attaching the front frame and partially lift the main canvas up.

My upper arm strength is not great, and I find I can pull the eyelet over the spike of the middle frame a lot easier when it is near the ground rather than being partially lifted up from the ground.

We found the same problem when test pitching it for the first time. It went in eventually but not before the neighbours had learned some new cuss words! Several of them in fact. We put it down to the canvas being brand new and needing to be 'run in' a bit.

Tried all variations - joining at middle, at both sides, poles horizontal, vertical, angled, no upright poles inserted and brute force! There is nearly 5cm between angled spike and eyelet.

Tent is up again, but I will measure poles/eyelet spacing: according to instructions should be 170cm +/- 2cm. (yes, I am an engineer😳)

+/- 2cm on a 170cm pole is a huge variance. Not that it should matter that much, though...

We struggled the first couple of times, especially as on our second attempt we mixed up the corners of the A frames ( as you will know they are slightly different and we lost the erect by numbers guide lol). I must admit the inner frame is the most difficult,feeding the centre pole through the sleeve first and attaching the legs last works best for us. Good luck.

Managed it eventually! Brute strength... Also, the canvas had dried out giving me better purchase and it did seem to stretch a bit more.

Oh well, lesson learned.

We made this mistake too, it had all worked fine with putting the middle pole in first when we were at home in the garden but in the south of France in the 35c heat the whole process was a tad more tricky. We couldn't work out whether to put the cross pole in first or the corners? anyway we did it and got lots of admiring looks from Dutch campers and Brits alike!

Lots of comments ' Oh, they're English' as they spotted the car next to the tent 17

On my profile there is a picture of  the Palamos, we used a clingon (how did I ever survive without them!) to attach a tarp in the right position to give us shade at the front of the tent.

Can you pitch it on your own? I haven't managed yet... I chickened out when the front pole began to twist as I pulled it up off the ground. I haven't tried with the leg bottoms missing first though... maybe I'll try that tomorrow...

We had the exact same problem when pitching ours for the  first time. The distance between the holes in the canvas is 166cm, the distance between the prongs on the poles is 170cm !! Now that took some stretching. The ironic thing is these poles have an adjustment feature if its too slack .... Not a chance.
