I have managed to price match a few suppliers and have got on hold a Montana 6P package that includes: tent, awning, carpet, footprint and windscreen for a total of £628.
I think this is a good deal and need some opinions/convincing from you lot in the know that this is the deal I think it is.
Ought I to wait until the autumn / winter for a potential bargain? I'm in no rush. We have an invitation to go camping in September and the offer of borrowing a tent. We have pretty much decided that our summer holiday next year will be camping in France and it seems that buying a tent and heading south is as cheap as buying a camping holiday package. There after the cost per holiday should be cheaper.

With retailers wanted to sell off stock before winter now is probably as good as anytime to buy. Some tents have sold out already

the price for all of that is excellent - just make sure its the tent that you really want though.
i only say that because you mention going to france with it next year.
i know from experience only just recently getting our 1st ever polycotton tent what a real difference this fabric makes in the sun. the tent remains comfortable whereas with the nylon/polyester tent it was very hot inside.
try seeing and being inside the polycotton version of this tent before you take the plunge. Go outdoors have the Montana Lake on offer at the moment so you could get a good deal on it.
i still have my polyester tents but use them in cool weather camping - the polycotton comes out the rest of the time. ( its also very nice and quiet and doesnt make that crisp packet rustling noise in the wind! )
otherwise i doubt the actual deal on that 6p tent outfit could get much better.

If you can afford polycotton then it is worth the upgrade as it will be cooler in warm weather and warmer in cool weather. The added benefit is the tent will also last longer anyway.
As far as I'm aware Outwell do not yet make the closed awning for the Montana Lake only the open extension.

If you read this thread. Somerset camping have it for £549.99 so if you get a PM with Go Outdoors you could get the tent for £494.99.The only downside is that Go Outdoors may have run out of delivery stock so will only be relevant if you are close to a store with stock. Go Outdoors sometimes suspend delivery on special offer items.

Thanks for your helpful comments.
I have managed to secure with Go Outdoors a Montana Lake for £494.99 and also a Montana 6P for £307.80. I think I am swaying towards the Lake , although the difference would pay for the 6P awning!
The possibility of a quieter, cooler/warmer tent is very appealing. the additional size and weight is a concern.
To throw another spanner in, which other polycotton tents should I consider?!! Maybe I shouldn't go there!!!
Thanks

have you read this review of a Cabanon Elody tent? copied and pasted here:-
y: Nessie_dog Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2001 Rating: Date: 30/07/2011
Lovely large living area with large windows letting in lots of light. Very good headroom and bedrooms have a really cosy feel when double air bed in them. We have two children under 4 and it is great as one can sleep in proper size travel cot that fits into larger bedroom with the double airbed too. There is a door on the front and an entrance on the side and the front can be fully opened too. We wanted a canvas tent because we go to France camping and it gets too hot in a poly tent but we couldn't afford a new one so this was a bargain off ebay. Very easy to put up and take down. Only downside is the weight and size when packed up. But a small compromise for the cost and space!
1 from 1 people found this review helpful, was it helpful to you?
and then lo and behold on ebay :-

and you might like to take a looky at the Cabanon site to get an idea of these brilliant French tents - ideal for french camping conditions! - the prices are something else - makes it look like outwell are just giving their tents away lol - but on ebay / on here / gumtree there are some Cabanon bargains.
you've just opened a can of worms i thinks. lol
oh, and you might whilst your at it, have a look at these canvas tents too:-
http://www.dewaardtenten.nl/index.php/tenten/vergrote-zilvermeeuw
the dutch DeWaard tents have the option of the Vario-Luifell ... its in effect a Variable Awning - its a very large and heavy canvas with mutiple mounting points that instead of being fixed only to the front of the tent, can also be fixed there in a conventional style but can also be attached for example, only to the side - handy if you want to sunbathe but be sheltered from the wind or for privacy but still get the sun. or a plethora of all different ways!.
they are rarely seen on uk sites, but i saw 2 in whitby and went to chat to the owners who not surprisingly were visiting from holland. i congratulated them on their wonderful tents as mine is only a lowly outwell bear lake tent ( a toy pretend tent compared to a de waard! ) and almost felt ashamed of it lol. the de waards are in a league of their own - probably only surpassed by Karsten tents. but supremely strong, well made from only the best of materials and as has been quoted before - DeWaard owners can disregard the weather and carry on camping!
you can see them for sale on www.marktplatz.nl and you'd likely have to take a trip to holland to buy a used one, but read the reviews from the owners on here!
its my ultimate tent - pure canvas for continental camping in the utmost comfort and knowing it could probably last a lifetime - the outwell wont do that i know, its good, but its not that good.
once you ve seen a cabanon, de waard or a Karsten - anything less is well just ummmm... ( anyways im on the lookout for a used one for the price of a new outwell! )
good luck - and i told ya - you dont know what you've started now!!!. lol

Have tried every branch of Go Outdoors that state they have stock to find that none have stock of the Montana Lake. So my idea that the 'reserve' part of the website works is not the case due to their stock levels not being live!!
I guess it will have to be the 6P!

Thanks for all your comments, I appreciate the time you have taken to help me out and your comments have helped clarify my ideas and although the monty 6P can be had for £307 I am going to aim for a polycotton / cotton / canvas. No doubt I will end up having to get a tow bar fitted and a trailer bought!!!

Kamp Frinton 4 classic on Ebay for £349 including carpet and footprint by camperite. Might be worth contacting them direct to see if they will do it any cheaper?
