Hi,
We have just returned from our last camping trip of the year. We have decided that next year we will need a new tent as our current zenobia 6 with porch now really leaks!! We are a family of 4,.2 adults and 2 young children. We like to glamp it a little! Have decided this time would prefer a tent that incorporates the porch area rather than an add on. Is the vermont xlp really that much larger than the lp as online dimensions make it look like just half a metre wider with no difference in length? Any ideas or alternative suggestions appreciated but want to keep the price down!!! Thanks in advance.

We were pitched near the xlp last week, got chatting and had a nosey..as you do! It is an amazing tent.
I would say to go for the bigger and get the xlp.your children are only going to grow and you will have a tent that will give you years of pleasure and space

With the Vermont L, the bedroom pods are designed for 4+2 sardines! A double airbed takes up the 4 leaving you the 2 for the kids (Assuming you sleep that way. You can unzip the divider if that helps). The XL is 2+3+2 (sardines) - if you can fit your adult sleeping into the 160cm wide middle pod then the kids get a pod each either side.

I think it depends a lot on whether the kids will happily co-habit or whether they would prefer their own space(s). Given that you mention they are young then perhaps they are happy to sleep together, in which case the Vermont L would be okay, and save you some money and possibly some additional pitch fees on 'awkward' sites.

My pennies worth, we found that the XLP was actually cheaper as a package deal than the LP, so it was a no brainer.

The xlp is approx 65cm wider but really it depends on how you view the bedroom arrangement. The L has a 4-2 bedroom split so you would have a nice big bedroom and the kids would have a small bedroom to share. This is what we have and our boys are now 17 & 12 and they still sleep fine together in the small bedroom. With the XL you will get a lot smaller bedroom and the kids will benefit by having a bedroom each. Unless of course you and OH sleep apart in the small bedroom and let the kids have the bigger one.

Also have a look at some of the Kampa tent "mcguire" has listed some good prices in a seperate post on here

Noticed that but it's difficult to find the footprint and arpet and I don't want to be stuck without those..

So unless I can get all three I'm holding off to see what happens in the coming months.

Also can you get a kid bedroom for the Vermont?

We have the XLP and love it

We have 2 girls who don't always get on , so we opted for the XLP so they can have a 'room each' with plenty of space for a blow up single bed, and room to move around and to store all their clothes etc.

When we have camped they have had 'friends back' to their respective rooms and there's plenty of space for 3 or more girls to crash out and chat in each of the side rooms! ... with our double room in the middle to help give a little distance between the 2 groups if needed!

Our double central room fits a double airbed, and nothing else ... but that's fine as we use the wardrobe for our clothes storage.

One night we opened up all the bedrooms and 'slept together' and the one room seems massive!

The lounge area is also huge! ... and we never felt on top of each other.

The front porch is plenty wide enough for a kitchen unit one side, table and chairs in middle and larder the other side.

The only downside of the XLP over the LP in our opinion is you can't get a front extension for the XLP, whereas a Montana 6 front extension just about fits a LP I believe..... that said, we think we've found a Coleman awning that will do the job!

So I would say, unless you have kids that won't argue and who ae happy to share a very cosy room, then go for the XLP!

We have 3 kids (13, 11 & 6) and we have the Vermont L which we find great. We spent 2 weeks in it in France this year without any issues regarding space. We have an Outwell Posadas double & single camp bed for the girls in the 3 berth and a double for us in the 2 berth.
It's a great tent.

We have just ordered the xlp - but it wasn't easy. Go outdoors website claims to have them but I would reccommend actually calling as we found quite a few websites weren't up to date! After a long search we got one from Springfield camping. The carpet my husband got on Fruugo (I think) and the footprint is coming from a French website called be-wak! It seemed to us as though everyone in the UK was out looking for a vermont xlp so good luck finding one just now if that's what you decide on!

I have been looking at both these tents and would have gone for the LP but the 4 +2 split is just silly and a 3 + 3 would have been much better as both bedrooms would have been a decent size. So the XLP for us is the better choice as our 16 year old girl and 13 year boy now want seperate bedrooms.

We have grown used to the bedrooms in the Monty so ours will be a bit smaller but the kids will have their own bedrooms.
