Sorry but just for a minute there, I thought you had bought one for 6p
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
The tent is big enough that you can use the main area for a kitchen for a few days, but for longer stays an awning really helps. Its not cheap and does make the whole tent take longer to put up and take down, plus it keeps the main carpet cleaner.
I only wish there was a mesh door on it like the main door has plus zip up curtains. Other then that its worth it.
The extension however is little more then a porch area, we got it as I like to sit outside in evening and watch sun go down without having to open awning up to do the same.
Not sure what else you can use, if your not bothered about colours matching I am sure there is something out there.
I understand Outwell used to do a grey (same colour as Montana 6/6P roof panels) porch/tarp with no sides for the Montana 6 but that was prior to 2010 models. You might find a used one for sale somewhere though.
We purchased both the 6P Awning and 6P Extension. If I could only get one, I’d get the Awning as you can always remove the groundsheet, un-peg and unroll the front so it is open fronted and it has toggles to allow this. If the weather becomes bad, you just do it all back up and re-peg.
The open Extension, I have only used this once and it was on the front of the Awning and the mud valance took more room, so this probably works better on just the main tent. Also you should take this down in strong winds and it does not have a front to it.
You can easily get 2 chairs and a small table under it (perhaps a small kitchen stand). I think the Extension worked better on last year’s model as it did not have the new front which looks better, you lose a bit of space.
I wish Outwell just did the one Awning in which the front could be zipped off and moved back to another zip further within the awning to give you a porch area.
We tried it out at my mums last weekend. putting it up wasnt so bad. longest job pegging it all out !!
the best thing was packing it away, got all the tent down started folding it up, kept feeling lumps inside the tent, 3 times it happened til we got it all folded up.
but then has any1 managed to get it back in the bag ? we havent, my ada managed to find us a big sack which we put it in. all in all went pretty well for first time. we have 2 kids as well. 5 & 2 yr old, they enjoyed it. which was great to see them happy in it.
When taking
it down, you need to leave all the doors unzipped and get as much air out as
you can by crawling over it.
You then
need to fold the tent 3 times from one side and 2 from the other (we use the
bag as a guide for the width of each fold). In between each fold you need to
crawl on it again to make sure there is no trapped air.
Once you have folded it so that it’s a slightly less width then that of the
bag, you need to roll it. We normally put the peg bag in the side we start to
roll. Next I lay on it as my wife rolls the tent as tight as she can. Once this
is done I sit on it and we tie the ribbon around it and slid it back into its
bag.
I hate putting tents away but there is no way we would have enough room for
everything if we didn’t get it back into its bag. The first time we used this
tent it took 5 attempts to get it back into its bag.
We do find the
awning is the most complicated to put away and the bag is twice as big as when
we got it.

For the "original" Montana Outwell used to make an open sided front"canopy" (ideal for keeping rain off the front door), an open front universal "side extension", an open front front extension all of which should still fit the 6p and crop up at reasonable prices on Ebay

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
