Today I took the family to Go Outdoors and made them sit in lots of tents.
It was actually really useful, well, I thought it was, and I think we've kind of made a decision. We narrowed it down to the Outwell Montana 6P, and the Vango Maritsa 700. Then, based on price really, we decided that the Maritsa is probably the best choice for us.
We're two adults and two young children, with an SMax to fit it all in.
I've had a look at the pictures and reviews on here, and I'm a bit worried about the reports of leaking, but I suppose you're never going to get something that's perfect every time are you?
Any thoughts or opinions welcome.

I have neither of those tents. And I generally prefer Outwell.... I would definitely go for the Maritsa. From what I've read on here the leak problems are all sorted for this year's models. We saw a few pitched when we were camping this year and they looked really good and withstood the wind an drain well.
Bizarrely I didn't see as many Montana's this year, but the ones that I did didn't look as roomy or as sturdy. (Although that could have been down to the quality of pitching).
Listen to someone far more qualified than me [but then buy a Maritsa ;-) ]

One thing to remember about Go Outdoors is the price match plus 10%. For instance Charlies Direct (quick Google) are selling the new version of the Montana 6P for £399.99. When price matched with Go Outdoors you could get the tent for £359.99. You can probably find better deals as I have just posted this as an example
If you are already aware of this I apologise!!

Sorry, just realised that sounded a bit rude. Meant to say, I am aware of it, but thank you for posting the exact links to the good deals anyway because I don't always know where they are.

hi - check the zippers on the vango - iv posted up about my new vango omega 350 door zippers - basically the tent fabric goes over the zippers, but the wind lifted the fabric clean off the zipper, the rain then came through the unprotected zipper and into the tent so i had to have a towel on the living area floor.
whats crazy about this is that the omega is supposed to be in the adventure series with a 5000mm h/h - which is great but it lets rain in through the doors zippers if its windy!!!.
the maritsa of course probably has a completely different design of door being a big tent!.

Absolutely no need to apologise! Just reading your first post as you mentioned cost was a factor wasn’t sure you were aware of the price match policy so thought I would mention the obvious just in case.

There are several people on here with the Marista's and all seem to really love them. The leaking problems appear to have been resolved for 2012 (and I think 2011 but not 100% sure on that). If buying one on-line make sure it is not an old one as you could end up with one that leaks!

Hello
We have a Maritsa 700 and are very pleased with it. Our old Vango colorado went to heaven at the end of last year so the hunt was on for a new tent.
We purchased ours earlier this year after going to a tent display with purchasing the Montana in mind, but after walking around the Maritsa and measuring the bedrooms and making my children lie on the floor etc we decided on the Maritsa.
We had a couple of leaks the first time out but that was because we had the awful rain that battered against the tent for several hours, the leaks were from the bottom of the zip by a window, a quick dry and a smear of storm sealer and no more leaks. We have used a further 3 times this year, again in more rain and wind and it has stood up to the weather fine.
It is lovely and roomy and having the middle bedroom as a wardrobe keeps things put away tidy.
I do wish you could purchase a canopy for it though, Vango do make an enclosed canopy but I would like an open one to sit under if raining, also to stop the rain coming in when you open the front door.
We purchased ours from Value Tents/Cross Camping and had excellent service and they were the cheapest at the time.

We have a Maritsa 700 2011 model with the additional porch. it was the 2010 model that had all the problems with leaking. Vango did sort this issue out for 2011. Also note that some suppliers are selling a model 2012, but vango have not made a new maritsa 700 for 2012. Its a fantastic tent with loads of space, easy to pitch, stands up very well to high winds and heavy rain. We have used it 6 times this year and its brill.

Thank you everyone!
I've bought one! It's a year old, and I've got it second hand. Thought it was a good idea for our first tent, just in case we don't take to it (but I hope we do).
Going to pick it up on Sunday. Very excited!!
Then next time I have a weekend day off, we're going to pitch it in a local field, because I'm not convinced it will fit in our garden.
