Hi folks,

just got back from our very first camping trip. We ( my wife ,4 kids  and I) had a wonderful time at Laxey campsite on our beautiful island, which is only 10 miles away but camping is camping I guess.

Anyway about our Icarus 1000, it was great! loads of room , easy to pitch only took me and Steph an hour from parking the car to finishing. We also bought the canopy which we found slightly more tricky but will suss it with a bit more practice. It was a real home from home for the weekend. We got the carpet and foot print too. What a wonderful thing having a carpet in a tent so so cosy, and as for the footprint, to my mind this is a must have piece of kit, our ground sheet was bone dry and clean when we packed up.

It was quite cold in the night and with 6 of us in the tent there was lots of condensation , is this normal?

I aint got time right now but took loads of pics wich i will do my very best to get on here.

We have spent what i consider to be a lot of money on all our gear, so thank goodness it was a hit with the kids. I have just put our 6 year old twins to bed and one of them said that they had been more comfortable on their air bed( Coleman comort) . I thought that was a wonderful recomendation for camping.

Also must say the campsite was wonderful too, very helpful warden and very good facilities.

I cant wait til next year to get to england and have a family holiday in our tent.

  Bye for now

 Neil

sounds like a perfect start to your camping holidays! - hope you have many more!

now you ll be looking at other things to buy to add to your setup! like a smaller tent for weekends/quick getaways, induction hob and portable oven for roast dinners and the portable fridge and freezer to keep them in - iv got the fridge but stalling on the freezer lol.

Glad your first trip was a success and you all had a good time

Oh and yes, condensation can be a problem. Not a huge amount you can do but make sure all vents are open.

Dont cook or boil kettle inside the tent as this causes a lot of condensation and leave the vents open.
Glad you had a good camp

Hi - any joy getting your vango Icarus 1000 photos up?

I have an Icarus 500 - is the 1000 literally just double that actual tent?

Thanks
J

The 1000 is a Vis-a-Vis style tent with bedrooms either end and living area in the middle

Johnny, the dimensions are pretty similar to my Tigris 800XL. Should give you the idea if its just a sense of scale you are after.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Vango-Tigris-800-XL/2572

I did note that the Icarus achieves the 10 person rating by allowing only 63cm width per berth, its 70cm in the Tigris - worth considering when factoring in sleeping arrangements if you intend to squeeze in 5 people at either end!

I've got the Icarus 800 which we use for 3 plus dog, with one sleeping pod for storage. I reckon the most you could sleep in it comfortably would be 6. 2 in each pod would be friendly to say the least.

Having said that it's a great tent and stood up to some hefty wind and rain on the Isle of Wight this summer.
