I have an Outwell Hartford L which I bought second hand last year. It's been great for 3 trips, one of which was 14 nights in France. I've got the camping bug and want to know if money were no object what would be the best tent for my family of 4? I'm 6"3 so headroom is important! Thanks in advance!
Pete

I'm a camping convert too! We are a family of three and bought the Hi Gear Voyager 6 as our first tent. No sooner had we gone away than we wanted to upgrade -not that our tent was rubbish - far from it. Loved it. We have recently bought the Montana Lake. I spent ages looking for the best family tent, and the Outwell Monty was so highly rated that we couldn't dismiss it, yet we also want to camp in Europe like yourselves so we wanted polycotton. If money is no object I would def go for polycotton or canvas as it is so much more comfortable. I guess then you need to think of size for your family. My hubby is 6 .2 and has ample headroom in out Montana Lake. Down side is its heavy and bags are large. Have you looked at Outwell ambient collection? Very classy!
Cotton tents are the way if money isn't an option. However if you don't want to spend too much and get as much bang for your bucks I'd seriously consider the royal athens 6 tent. It's absolutely massive inside and even those on camp with Outwell montys commented how much nicer it is than theirs. I'm 6ft 1 and have to tippy toe to reach the ceiling.
No such thing as the best family tent, what suits one family may not suit another. If you think youve found the best one something will come out next year which is even better

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

I have to agree . We have a Soulpad tipi perfect for use but not for every one .
We love our Vango Amazon 600. I'd recommend that, plenty of room for 4 people. Does not let in a drop of rain even in a serious downpour and easy to pitch even for newbies like us. However, I agree with others, go and browse a few, think about what you need/want eg: sig, layout, size, extras available, pitching method, weight.... And come up with a wish list then use the reviews on here to find one that ticks all your boxes.
And be prepared to see something you like better as soon as you've got it!
have you looked at DeWaard tents, Karsten tents or Cabanon? - they are nice alternatives to Outwell if you want something different. they are also of the highest quality -)
Have you looked at the Kampa higher spec range. Excellent headroom ( tallest tent we have ever owned) thicker material, and well made. Would recommend filey 6. Comes both in poly cotton or better spec normal material. Loads of room with built in separate storage area, and canopy. The poles are also a lot lighter and easier to handle than the Outwells, but equally strong. Wins hands down over the Montana in our view. Happy hunting
