Hi

Just wanting some advice on a new tent. I have a large, 2 bedroom tent with eating area in the middle which is great for 3+ people. Its quite heavy and needs more than 1 to erect.

As i cannot get friends together as regular as i would like, i would like to also buy a smaller, more manageable tent for me or me+1.

It doesn't need to be all singing, dancing, but i would like it easy to put up by myself and not too heavy. Its for a car so doesn't need to be too light.

I bought a 2 man from argos, which seemed perfect. Easy to put up and fairly cheap, but once i got airbed in it was far too small. So i'm looking at a single bedroom but a good size. Most seem to be 210cm, which, by time you put a airbed in, drops down to 190cm or so. I am 185cm so this meant head and feet touching ends of tent. I didn't like this.

So i am returning it and want a bigger one. 2 berth ideally but a reasonable size bedroom. Plus i would like a porch for cooking/sitting if raining etc.

Willing to pay up to around £100 isn.

This seems to be my favourite so far:

http://www.outwell.com/en/Products/Tents/SmartTunnal/Fusion300Red.aspx

RRP is £160 ish, but i have found for £100 on amazon.

Another one i seen is:

http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-torre-xl-2-berth-tent-p146635

Any advice from anyone would be great, i like them both. The outwell looks the better choice. Is there any down sides to these?

I am quite a novice at tent buying so feel free to steer me :)

Sorry for long posting :) and thanks in advance for any advice.

Barry

A couple of suggestions for you
Khyam Freerider at £109 (no sewn in groundsheet in living area)and also look at the Khyam Freelander which is a bit more expensive.

Lichfield Findhorn 3 or even the Findhorn 4 which is easier to find online and may even be the same price as the three man version. The Vango Kairos is similar in design but might be a challenge to track down.

Easycamp Baltimore, a lovely wee tent, the living area is quite small but adequate for one.

Or what about a
Inner bedroom with a Quechua Base Seconds tent or indeed another pop up tent from the same range.

I've recently been looking for a tent that I don't have to crawl in, that has enough space in the living are for a couple of people to sit down on chairs and a sleeping area that my 6'6" self can lie down in comfortably. In the end I've settled on a Outwell Arizona L.

The runner up was the Sunncamp Silhouette 200 but I decided the sleeping area was too small and the head room too low in the end.

NB: Talking of Sunncamp tents, of a similar size to the Outwell Fusion 300 Red that you mentioned is the Evolution 300 (My niece and her chap (broke university students) have threatened to come camping with me next year if I buy them a tent for Christmas and the Evolution 300 is a strong contender for the job).

Barry,  I have the Fusion 200 and with a SIM and pillow there's not a lot of spare length! Also headroom is quite low so the porch is not for sitting in and definitely not for cooking in.  It's fine for me for a weekend but take the tarp if I'm on my own to cook/sit under.

Outwells tend to have 215cm bedroom lengths. Otherwise you could go for a 4 man and sleep across the bedroom pod.

The Vango Icarus 400 is 240cm wide in the sleeping pod (210cm length). There would still be room for two of you if you slept length ways, as long as you didn't mind sharing the sleeping area, as obviously you can't use the divider when sleeping that way.

It has a height of 180cm (170 in bed pod) and a good living area too with two doors and fully sewn in sig. It is easy to put up on your own, I can do ours with no problem.

There is plenty of room for 2 of you and it would be a palace for one of you . I know it is a bit over your price range but you might find one reduced at the moment. Oh and only the 2012 version has the 180cm head height. Older versions are about 150cm I think but still just as roomy.

hi barry,

do you need to be able to stand up? if not have a looky at the sacious vango beta 450

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vango-Beta-450-Tent-4-Person-Tent-2012-/200818228354?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_HikingCamping_Tents_JN&var=&hash=item2ec1b2fc82#ht_1045wt_699

iv got the omega 350 and its a great tent but i wish id gone for the 450 version ( looks almost identical to the beta range) as the 450 is wider and taller.

just be aware that the Omega and id think the beta will be the same - but check! - they omega doesnt have a sewn in ground sheet - it does have a clip-in groundsheet but in windy weather the ind blows into the tent in the lving area although the bedroom is draught-free.

i do have one of these and highly recommend it - Kampa Minnis 4 - it has a completely sewn in ground sheet so its draught free. it has 2 bedrooms, 1 at each end of the tent which you can clip in or leave out - we used it with just one bedrooms clipped in and extra living space. the bedroom is smaller than the beta/omega but the living space much larger and also being draught free is lovley. if you have a heater for the evenings, the heat doesnt get blown out like it does in the omega.
and for 100 quid i think its a bargain!.

Hi all and thanks for the advice and messages. In the end i decided to go for the Outwell 300 Fusion. Its obvioulsy not as high as i want it, but everything else fitted the bill. Perfect size inside and very very manageable both setting up and packing up.

Thanks again all :) much appreciated
