Our cub pack is looking at buyimg these for patrol tents, anyone got one or used one-are they robust enough for cub/scout camps and will they clean if we use at muddy gillwell.

I have a Giant Pearl, but I have only used it twice so far, both in good weather, so can't advise on your two questions for definite. It does feel strong when up. I also have the optional flysheet which will hopefully provide good protection in bad weather. If you decide to purchase the flysheet, this should also protect the actual tent from the mud. As Sarah says above, mud can be brushed off canvas once it dries, and with it been a dark colour, any that remains shouldn't show too much. I am hoping to use the this tent during winter, but until then, I hope the above helps.
I've got a Giant Pearl and it is around 30 years old...Still going strong and I've never felt the need for a flysheet..They are bombproof and mine has stood up to the most ferocious winds and rain.BCT were doing a good deal on them earlier in the year-a hundred quid off making them £250.00. Flysheet optional.
I have only used mine without the flysheet so far, and it was fine. Maybe two layers of good quality canvas is just overkill, but I got a good deal on it from a local army and navy type shop. I am thinking some nice long lie-ins with it, should be really dark in there.
