Karsten have a number of shows throughout the summer, check the UK website for dates. I have to say they are so nice, I think you get a 5 year warranty as well which is not something you get with the more well known brands.
I have a dream of making a fully UK made tent like the De Waard but its just finding the time and a quality skilled manufacturer, the design I can do but the problem is all the skills seem to have gone now.

Hi Gary
Nothing happened with Tom at Atomatent then?
BTW if you buy a De Waard you get a lifetime guarantee......

It is not uncommon for us to help people from the UK decide what type of De Waard suits their needs best. So you are very welcome to explore our De Waard Forum.
To choose a good model I would ask questions to you like:
- How big is your family?
- How old are the children?
- Do they want their own little tent?
- Where do you want to go camping? (Italy, France, UK only?)

The problem is these are expensive tents and most are sold direct by the manufacturer or atleast the brand its self and they are nor working on big margins.
If they gave me a 20% discount so I could sell them in the UK for the same price as they do there would be very little margin for me and very little for them.
The only way it will work is if I manufacture something myself in the UK and Im not 100% sure I could do with the hassle...
Having viewed a few De Waard tents close up (yes I'm very nosey and have no shame) they do not have quite the design I'm looking for. Elegant yes, strong yes but for a warmer year round flexibility I would pay good money for a high quality Escala 4. With top quality low fade canvas, option to lift its 'skirts' in summer and possibly some variphotal (?) flaps to streamline the front end if the winds get silly. Maybe that tent is already out there but I haven't seen it yet

This makes me wonder what you mean.. What benefit does it have in your opinion? I am curious
Hi Rolph,
With regard to the Escala I like the extendable inner area. the option to either have a covered area outer in summer or move the front for a bigger group in winter gives a flexibility I like in one tent. I use my Eldorado all year in all weathers but would like to have the option of a covered or closed area depending on needs.
I have found that although the Eldorado is supremely weather proof, when the temperature drops it requires a greater amount of heating than a similar tent with superior quality canvas (Cabanon Guadalupe). The heat just flies out of it. The ability to vary the heated area would be very attractive.
Zipped in groundsheet gives weatherproof and nearly watertight environment for the living area yet allows me to string from inner tent attachments to outer guys effectively brailing up the walls for extra air circulation in very hot conditions (I also camp in south of France).
I suppose I also like the fact that Hypercamp gave me a very cheap access to pyramid tent camping and would love to promote the principal that beats (for me) all the other tents I have used.
So there you go Rolph, just my opinion

Thank you for responding to my original question, sorry for taking so long to answer - I have been busy working away from home for a week!
Thank you for the information regarding the de waard and Karsten tents.
I really like the styles of the de waards but I love the inflateable poles of the Karsten tents.
I will be buying from maarktplatz.nl and not new as they are too expensive to buy new for me and they all seem to be very durable tents and so as long as they have been stored in a dry place then they should be in good condition and last for many more years.
Thanks for your invite to join your forum - it will be my activity this weekend coming and I'm looking forward to it!
So thanks once again for all your helpful information and the invitation too.
I look forward to joining the continental tent campers very soon!
Kind regards.

at Basichendo: I think you can look at Albatros, Lepelaar, Vergrote Zilvermeeuw and maybe the Jan van Gent (only 2nd hand available)
at John in Leeds: thanks for the info. I partly understand.
at hankakampa: you are very welcome. We can also help looking for a good 2nd hand. Including shipment. And I have a Lepelaar of a friend of mine available for sale. As he doesn't speak English I am helping him.
