Hi we are a family with an 11 yo girl and an 8 yo boy - thinking of a camping holiday in the Southern half of France in August. Would love any recommendations - particularly sites which have nice facilities (swimming pool, maybe a few sports), attractive location and friendly atmosphere. Probably not the far south of France as don't want to spend hours and hours driving there.
Many thanks in advance

Have you tried the camp site search on here? Go to the map of France and click on the area you're thinking of there's lots of sites listed with lots of reviews, with links to their websites. Found one you like the look of? Add it to your virtual brochure then when you've found a few you can compare them for driving times / distances / facilities etc.
We have been back 3 times since 2009 to "Domaine de Gill" at Ucel close to the town of Aubenas and within walking distance of the Spa town "Val Les Bains" in the Southern Ardeche. great little 4 Star campsite with just 40 touring pitches. couple of reviews on here.
Distance was just 600 miles from Dunkerque, so quite easy to get to using the autoroutes via Reims, Troyes, Dijon and Lyon etc.
And only 100 miles from the Med as the crow fly's if you fancy a day out beside the seaside like we did last July.
A friend of mine goes to France every year. He usually gets hold of a Keycamp brochure, finds a few sites he likes, and then contacts the site direct. Most sites in France will take direct bookings, and it's rare for the package type holiday firms to use poor sites.
