Hi, just wondered if any one else had one of these & used as kitchen tent, to eat in? Thought I may get one as can't always use the tarp with my bell tent (if too windy) and it looks very easy to pitch on my own. If not, can anyone else suggest a good alternative-that I can pitch easily on my own.

I have the Eurohike easy pitch family room which is very easy to pitch (literally springs into shape once released then thread through a couple of poles for over the doors) but putting away is an art form but is possible!

Although it states it's 2.5m square that isn't useable space due to the shape, probably ok for two or three people to use as kitchen & dining area but for a family of 5 I need most of the space to cook & dish up and definately don't have enough space for the dining table with this layout (may have another go next time we camp even if its just to get the children to dine in there rather than the bell tent)

Having already owned a frame tent I would rather use a canvas frame utility as the walls don't slope so much so will have more useable area, it really isn't that hard to put up a small frame tent alone.

i use one as a kitchen tent and it works fine, but the trouble with them is the shape.so by the time you have your kitchen stand in there, theres not that much room,as the kitchen stand has to be quite along way from the wall for safety.

I've gone ahead and got one from Decathlon this afternoon, as they currently have £30 off them. Wongers, saw one up & see what you mean, but I usually only have my cooker at a lower height, so I reckon with window open, I should just about be OK. I'll have to post pic on 1st use!

I've been looking at these too, for the same purpose.  Is it this one?  What happens to those flaps if you are not docking a couple of pop up tents onto the base tent?

The regular one without the docking flaps is not reduced so costs more.

Hi Achy, i have one of these from Decathalon also (2.25x2.25m) .... and also have a 5M bell.  I use the Quachua for the kitchen and storage.  You could probably put a table for 2 in there as well with relative ease, a table seating 3 would be snug but possible ... a table for 4 would probably be pushing it ......

Great tent to pitch, takes all of 30 seconds, and probably takes about 10 minutes to depitch and struggle to get back into shape and into the bag.

Humbird

What about one of those folding suitcase picnic tables with the attached stools?  Would that fit better?  They are more compact than separate table and chairs.

Humbird, my table really is only for 2 people, but some how the 3 of us fit around OK- youngest always sits on top of the cool box, I sadly took a tape measure and plotted it out-it should all work!

It works really well as a kitchen tent, i tend to sit down when cooking so the sloping walls are not a problem and the mesh windows really make it well ventilated and can still be open even if its raining.

We have used one as a kitchen tent in the past,  what I did was to make a splashback and hang it from the little tags in the corners to keep the tent splash free

also when packing away leave the tent pegs in three of the corners when you push the free one in,it saves chaseing it halfway round the campesite if you are on your own

I'm using a Khyam day tent for my kitchen. Will give it a season trial run and see if she stays.

How strong are the decathlon tents if the weather is windy?

Very!   They do move and bend but it would have to be almost a tornado to wreck one.

I've seen one used as a kitchen / store, and thought it was a great idea. The group I saw using it all had  a few smaller 3 to 5 man tents popped up around it, so they didn't need so much storage within their own tents.

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.

Has anyone looked at the Ozark Trail Gazebo at asda? for £30.00 it looks like a good buy is lightweight packs into its own bag (tent type poles) and has mesh sides to keep the midges out.

Sorry I don't know how to put a link here but just log onto asda and search for gazebo.
