Hi

I'm new to this forum, 'tho I've been reading the tent and campsite reviews for ages.

We have been using an Oakland M for a few years now since we decided we wanted something we could sit inside in the evening instead of going to bed at 8pm. Generally It's been a great tent and we really like it but have the same complaint as everyone else: there's no canopy available and the rain gets in when you open the door.

Last year we tried rigging a tarp over the entrance which worked for a while until the wind got up then it took off.

We were pleased to see the Birdland 3 now comes with an extension but can't quite justify the cost of replacing the whole tent when its in perfectly good condition so we were wondering if the Birdland 3 extension might fit the Oakland m?

I've had a look at the dimensions and it seems the Birdland is a little bigger but that if I got hold of one of the original extensions it might work: has anyone else tried this?

Thanks
Gill x

See my previous posts. We bought a very cheap brand new Fantasy explorer. I checked the tent & extension sizes. Seemed like the closest fit would be a Nevada front ext. Looked at prices in Go & they said if it is re-packed as new, they would refund within 28 days if it doesnt fit. Son in law bought the same tent as us - much too good a bargain to refuse - .& his budget is lower than ours. He managed to get a Vango front ext for about £35 from Go. Same refund policy but he says it fits quite well.

My opinion :- check sizes & try buying from somewhere where you can get refund if no good. Someone on here said there was no way the Nevada front ext would fit my tent as it was 60cms wider than tent. Just goes to show!

Good luck

gillm - what you need to do is put your tent up and accurately measure the width of your tents main opening where an extension would attach. measure the width at the bottom and the top. then measure the height at the middle and again at either side of the top ( in the corners ).

then find this new extension or the birdland tent on display and compare the measurements of your tent against the birdland.

i would suggest that as long as non of your tents measurements are more than approx 10cm different to the birdland then the birdland extension will fit fine.

otherwise keep hold of your measurements and look at other tents till you find one of similar dimensions doorway that has an extnesion available.

Thanks for your help
had a look at the dimensions online and it looks like it should fit well enough.

The birdland seems to be getting bigger and squarer at the font every year so have tracked down a last year extension from go outdoors and they're supposed to be sending it to our local store.

Fingers crossed it fits, will let you know

Gill x
