Thus far I'm happy to report NO RAIN when I've camped! An HH of 5000mm really shouldn't leak, unless it's coming in through the frankly naff front door "lip." I'd FAR rather have had a Montana Lake style front door without the drop down part at the bottom!

There's really no reason the groundsheet should leak. It's a much better sheet than the cheaper Outwell tents and they aren't always getting slammed for leaking.

Where was the water coming into yours?

at racey1979 i share your feelings Exactly!. see the other thread thats running on this subject and you ll see my scribblings echoe yours! - i should have looked at this aspect of the concorde more closely before taking the plunge really.

i should write on outwells facebook page really and maybe they may take notice - not sure they see what goes on in this site.

at tpaltony - the water was coming in 2 places on mine. 1st was where all the front doors zippers meet at the bottom of the front door. theres a gap that just doesnt close completely and with a sloping front door the water just runs down and in through the gap.

the 2nd spot the water came in was about 30 cm in from the front door and inline with the vertical zipper. ( and it didnt come in through the door zipper here ).

the ground had a dip which for some reason filled with water. this water weeped its way through the thin fabric groundsheet of the concorde and sat there. im appalled at how thin the groundsheet material is. if you hold it up to the light you can see through it!!!. its even got a hydrostatic head count - and some tents flysheets have a higher count lol. - see my ramblings about this on the other thread ( concorde update )

I really do think you need to contact Outwell and try and return it. If a lot of people dont make a fuss they won't think anything is wrong and will continue using what is obviously substandard material for the groundsheet.

Does anyone else pumping manually find it scary trying to pump to 0.6bar or above? I have mine currently at just under 0.5bar and feel it's well over inflated lol. I'm worried about stressing it too much on its first outing.

Is that enough? The inflatable Karsten I've just got needs to be at least 2.0 bar but can be inflated to 3.5 bar once fully up. Reading your quote is gonna make me return to the manual to make sure I'm right!!!

I had a mild panic attack as well!
I'm sure my instructions/video says to pump up to 2.5 bar for it to stand, and then up to 4.0 bar once up.
Then I thought perhaps the decimal point was in the wrong place and it was 6.0 bar....or maybe my manual says 0.4 bar...

Do not confuse PSI with BAR... The Outwells and Kampas are fine at 9-10 psi and the Vangos should be at 7psi. Most pumps have both scales on them so be careful you dont confuse the two scales as 0.5 bar is about 7psi..
Kampa will be doing away with the pressure gauge on any new inflatable stock that comes in over the nest 12-18 months, they say you just pump their tents and awnings up until they feel really hard or you cant get anymore in with the manual pump. The gauge just slows down the inflating of the tent.

Nope, checked the manual for the Karsten and was right. It goes to 54 PSI or 3.5 BAR.

Quite a difference!

We have the concorde l. We were in the New Forest two weeks ago and overnight there was torrential rain. The water ran under between the groundsheet and the footprint. When we lifted the carpet up upon leaving it was all wet underneath. My husband suspected it was because he had pegged down the footprint in such a way that the rain could get in and under...and that if it gathered in a pool on the footprint it was inevitably going to pass through the groundsheet...but reading the above maybe it would have leaked regardless... With the waterproof carpet backing it was fine anyway. I have no complaints about this tent. It is my favourite possession! Sitting in it feels so comfortable...whether it is hot/cold/windy/raining. Love it!

So that's 3 or 4 of us now with the same problem, I don't think anyone should stand for this. The water doesn't pass through any of the other tents on the market from what I know of so why should outwells?

The tent is lovely and I'm really upset that I had to return mine but now after reading more people with the same issues I think I have gotten a lucky escape!

My floor was covered in water, about 80% of it covered! I spent 24 hours trying to dry it on my hands and knees, moving the furniture and lifting my soaking wet carpet up and wiping the groundsheet dry for it to just suck the water back in after 60 seconds.

The low puddle leak sounds like a fault. The door leak sounds like a design flaw. I really don't like the front door. I especially hate the lack of a mesh panel on it which my Montana Lake had!

Are you certain you pulled that outer zip all the way down on the front door? I found that if I reached through and pulled it all the way down and then toggled the stupid front door flap up, it was not going to be easy for water to get in (to be fair it's never rained on me and it has on you so I'll happily defer to your experience over my hypothesis.) :)

I do find it odd that the Smart Air groundsheets are an HH of 5000 while the Montana 6 entry level tent is an HH of 10000! Certainly nothing is a robust on any tent I've seen as the thick rubber groundsheets on any of the "Lakes." That said, it's a very heavy groundsheet at that. On your TL4 I'm sure it's not too bad, on my ML it was really heavy. And I suspect that's why they haven't gone with it. It would make the overall "one simple pitch" proposition unworkable. It won't work as a sew in, it's too heavy, it'd rip the seams when you tried to move things around. So they've gone with this high end material.

I suspect as people have said, we are all better off without a footprint so that water can "go somewhere." But I like the fact my groundsheet is clean with the footprint. I am a fair weather camper to be fair, so for me if the rain gets really heavy it's because I've been caught out. That said, if it does leak all merry hell is going to break out with the people who supplied it (who to their credit have always been entirely reasonable and professional!) :)

Do let me know how you get on with the issues with yours. It really doesn't sound right for this groundsheet to leak like this!

I just noticed the new OutWell SmartAir collection on their website.

Notably, the Concorde and new Harrier quote 10,000mm hydrostatic heads on the groundsheet now...

BUT, if you watch the Harrier videos they say 10,000mm in the video but the Concorde one still says 5,000mm.

I'm going to the NEC show in Feb and plan on discussing this with the Outwell people as I don't think we should have to put up with that sort of change so soon after product launch when it's CLEARLY in response to a problem. I'm going to push them to replace my tent with a new one with the better ground sheet.

Might be worth a bunch of us doing the same thing...
