just a tip for anyone who finds their tent heavy to carry to / from house or garage to car and then from car to pitch and then all in reverse when coming home.

my new tent weighs almost 40kg in its bag with the accesories etc.

i went onto gumtree and found an almost new golf cart which folds up really small for just £10.00

the tent sits on it perfectly, and the straps which wud hold the golf bag wrap nicely around it and what a difference it makes to humphing the tent bag around now.

Mine is nearly 39kg and was supplied in two bags, one for the poles and one for the main canvas and the zipped in groundsheets.

I keep the ZIGs and door mats in the bag for my old tent that has gone to tent heaven.

The poles stay in their own bag.

The bedroom pod and the detachable front door panel go into the original tent bag.

The cheapo tarp that I use as a primary tarp is packed in a bin liner.

The main canvas is normally rolled up and put on top of the loaded trailer. It is usually taken out of the trailer and spread out in the garage for drying after a trip.

By splitting up the tent in 3/4 bags, I manage to load/unload with ease.

My new tent ( Concorde L ) has a sewn in ground sheet ( not a great idea in an already heavy tent - it shud be zig type really )

And there's no separate poles as its airbeam. So the only thing in the tent bag I could leave out were the pegs, pump, inner tent bedroom pod and the doormat.

It's still very heavy hence the golf trolley!

If tents keep getting bigger and heavier then I suggest the manufacturers begin to supply the battery powered golf carts for us to humph them around with!

Hi HankaKampa,

I have a luggage trolley and use this to move tents around in the past ... however I realised that the wheels of the cart brushed off the base of thecanvas bag of my tent and literally wore a few small holes in it by the wheels rubbing off against it. So now I put a little bit of mdf between the wheels and the canvas bag to protect the tent bag and it is much better. However it could have been "tragic" if the wheels had penetrated the tent canvas and not just the bag ....

The last thing you want is your lovely new Concorde to have holes in it, so bare that in mind! Lovely tent you got yourself!

hi humbird - similar situation with the golf cart and i did same as you with some wood on the bottom to "contain" the tent bag and keep it clear of the wheels!

see my review of the concorde - its ok - im not over the moon with it though. if it cost half what it did, yes would be a great tent for the money - but at almost full retail, the trout & bear lakes are actually better tents in several ways.

the concorde is all about the airbeams instead of poles and sadly other features from the Lake series tents are missing from it which is disappointing given its price.

I sent a lengthy e-mail to EVSO enquiring about their Bedouin 280 tent, as I really like this tent for its lesser number of pegging points when compared with my Escala 4.

Its overall weight is also over 10kg less than the Escala 4.

I was not able to afford it when I needed to get a replacement tent in a hurry back in Oct 2011.

I had been considering Escala 4's bigger brother/sister/whatever gender tents may be, namely the Palamos 6 as a replacement should anything happens to my tent.

However, I have serious concerns that I may not be able to pitch a bigger tent on my own. Fitting the canvas over the middle frame is particularly troublesome.

Yes I know I said I had reached my tent set up nirvana. However, this is for replacement purposes in the future, honest!

at dk - how immportant is it to you that you are able to pitch a tent on your own?

to me personally ( we all have different priorities ) its a must. so any tent that i cant pitch on my own is out.

which is why any method of making a tent easier to pitch is something i need to look at - especially my bear lake 6 and my concorde L.

It is a must for me too, as the dog can't help me!

Hence I ruled out ever owning a De Waard as I believe the one I'd like to have is too heavy for me to lift on my own.

I did consider getting a trailer tent next. However, I spent a lot of money on upgrading my sleep system and a trailer, and I would like to get more years out of them before I move over to a trailer tent or a tin tent.
