Hi, just looked at the vango maritsa 700 as our new family tent at go outdoors, and loved it. However, having read reviews on this site, lots of people have said there are problems with it leaking (not just small amounts either). We particularly liked the large living area, and front porch thats combined with the tent. Has anyone had any experience of these at all, good and bad ?

If we decide against this model (sadly) are there any other makes/models with similar layout that anyone can recommend ? Looking at about £500 max cost.

The Maritsa is a good tent but also check out the Kampa Bamburgh 6 tent, its very similar and also very nice. Also the Kampa Croyde 8 is proving to be very popular.

the first maritsa tents from Vango did have a problem but they sorted it out for the latest ones so I would not worry about any problems on this front

Hi,we've got the Maritsa 700 2011 model and cannot fault it. When we first looked at it there was a problem with a batch of the tents (2010 model) This was sorted and I've never had a problem with it.
The pure size of it and the versatility of the set up makes it a great tent for a family.

What you do tend to find is that was probably a bad batch of tents, which all manufacturers have suffered from, once that batch has gone the next batch will be fine. We bought an Outwell Vermont in 2007 this was the year that if you read the reports all the Vermonts were supposed to leak 6 years on and ours has never leaked. Have to agree with Gary the Kampa Croyde is a cracking tent and well worth considering

Hi,

We have the smaller Maritsa 500, again a 2011 model, and it has been brilliant. We have experienced some horrendous weather while camping in it and it has stood up to the elements incredibly well.

However, we saw a Kampa Bamburgh 6 'in the flesh' for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I loved it! The things we love about the Maritsa with the porch area, but much lighter due to bigger windows, and a lot less money! Definitely worth a look, but equally I don't think you would be disappointed with the Maritsa

We've got a Maritsa 700 and love it! It's been through some pretty horrendous weather, 24hrs of rain and high winds and we had no problems at all. The living area is so spacious and the porch (kitchen) is a godsend :)

Hi, thanks for all the replies - good to hear that it was probably only a dodgy production batch. Having looked at some more alternatives, both the vango astoria 800 and the kampa studland 8 also look nice. We are taking 3 kids with us, so a bedroom for each would be ideal (which the maritsa wouldnt offer). If we combined a front porch with the vango astoria, I think its going to offer almost as good, if not a little more living space compared to the maritsa we saw at go outdoors. Also, price point is right, as it may mean we can go for porch, carpet, footprint etc all in one go. Another consideration is how easy it is to put the tent up in the first place, and I think I am right in thinking the vango astoria may be a bit more straight forward (as its basically a tunnel design, with a larger central living area).

Has anyone had experience of these - I know kampa are very well reviewed also.

It will be our first time so we're trying to make the experience of camping with 3 kids reasonably stress free !
