Does anyone happen to know how well used tents are selling nowadays? Having seen the Kampa Filey Air 6 we are very tempted to sell off our Outwell Arkansas 5 (with footprint, carpet and kids bedroom) in favour of the 10 minute pitch time of the inflatable Kampa (also really like the layout).

The price of the new Kampa does kind of dictate that I'd need to achieve a reasonable price for my Outwell Arkansas 5 package. The Outwell is a fantastic tent - perhaps we're just getting lazy!!

Good question, and hard to answer...
Supply and demand is the short answer!

Its a case of if someone really wants the tent in question, at the right time, and sees the advertised price as being a good one.

I'm in the same boat!!

It's a bit tricky as the Arkansas has been discontinued. So it will depend on what someone is willing to pay and the price of other similar 5 berth tents. You could try it on Gumtree (I've personally never had any response from anything listed on here), listings are free and you can get an idea of the interest generated.

Google Trends lets you see search trends for tent in 2012. Just a quick look and between May and June seems to be the most active search months.

Normally by now you would get a good price but as the weather up to now has been c**p prices are low and quite a lot are not selling. I am hanging on till later next month to put mine up for sale

I too really like the layout of the Kampa Filey Air 6 but wanted polycotton so have gone for the Vango Shangrila airbeam as the Outwells really didn't impress me at all!!

We have a cougar lake to sell and have a feeling that will be a long job

Not trying to put you off buying your Kampa inflateable - but just be aware that the pitch time isn't 10 minutes!.
It may be 10 minutes from getting it out of the bag & inflating it, but you still need to peg it and guy it like any other large tent & that takes up quite a bit of time & then there's the kitchen bedrooms and living furniture to put together!

The time you save is only from not assembling poles and threading them into the tent! That's about it!

There's more to pitching a tent than just inflating it!

However the Kampa is a lovely tent should you go ahead & buy one I'm sure it will give much camping pleasure!

Wise words Hanakampa, you are currently paying a premium price for inflatable tents its really worth considering if the true time saved is worth the extra expense (probably an extra 10 minutes at most). Inflatable tents do have the advantage that they are easier to put up on your own. I'm waiting to see what the feedback is like this year as more manufacturers embrace the design.

Really? I thought all the furniture inflated at the same time and the pegs put themselves in the ground!


In all seriousness though, the steel poles of the Outwell make it quite heavy and cumbersome to put up, the pegging out is the easy bit. The inflatable option means I could easily put the tent up on my own if needed, something which is very difficult / next to impossible with the steel poled tent.

I think I'd like to see a few of the Inflatable tents in action this year first - especially in some high winds etc.

Certainly on my future shopping list though!!

brooksuk have you tried the Gary at Cross Camping method of pitching tents...? Peg out 4 corners, open doors, insert pole, lift and continue inserting each pole. Allows one person to assemble most tunnel tents.

We normally use the Yeomans method of inserting all poles, gathering the tent up, standing it up and sliding it out into position. Works fine but it is heavy!!

Might have a look at that Cross Camping method though - thank you!

at brooksuk - actually my living room sofa & 2 chairs are both inflateable - shame they not connected into the Airbeam system & went up with the tent! Hehe
Maybe that's the next step in these tents - sockets around the inside of the tent like you have powerpoints at home to inflate other items lol

Before you buy an inflateable tent, ask to see the bag it comes in and see if you can carry it to / from your car!
Also as the pressure begins to build up in the tent while your inflating it, the pump becomes harder to push up and down - after pumping for approx 5 minutes a rather large cold beverage was required by myself!

Very true - our inflatable sofa should plug into the tent!!

I have read that the bags are quite big on the reviews - probably less overall than the combined tent and pole bags of the Outwell though.

Pumping exercise = a very good excuse to break out the beers whilst setting up!

Cross Camping method video example tent up in around 10 minutes which is not that different from inflatable tents at a similar stage... Probably saving 5 minutes.

Well, we've decided to test the water and put our Outwell Arkansas 5 up for sale on Ebay and also on the adds section here. As others have said, I guess its a case of listing the tent at the right time.

Going to see the Filey Air 6 at Camping World, Horsham on Sunday to have a proper look. You never know, if I get a decent response on ebay etc we may well need to buy the Kampa!!

Definitely going to check out the bag size though and hopefully have a go at inflating the tent ourselves. Having seen the Filey 5 already I'm very impressed with the quality and the strength of the tent.

The Arkansas is still asked for as it's a popular design not really replicated in the new range. I think you'll have no problem selling it if it's in good nick
