We have had a Vango Sungari 400 for the past four years or so which has done us well, as we now have two children we are looking at upgrading to something a little larger.
I quite like the Vango tents but not sure about the quality of newer tents, I don't mind spending a little more for quality stuff that will last - but not extortionate prices.
I have seen the Outwell Montana 6p which would be absolutely perfect for us, but unfortunately £600 is a bit too much.
I like the Outwell tents, they seem to be quality and have lots of nifty little features which make life easier (low windows, good ventilation systems, good curtain 'systems' etc.)
I looked at the tent review section and noticed that the Virginia 5 was very well regarded, but you cannot seem to get them anywhere.
So basically, I have a couple of questions:
Which other brands should I be looking at as well as Outwell for a quality tent?
What do people recommend for us? Looking at maybe £300 (maybe a little more for something perfect) - bearing in mind we want a bit more living space than the Sungari 400 we currently have (sleeping space is fine in it)
Hi
Have a look at the Kampa Croyde 6 as its an ideal size for a family of 4 and its a great tent for your money. Quality is extremely good, steel poles so stable in the wind, big bedrooms ideal for when the kids grow, nice size living area and the big plus a built in front canopy. Had one since since 2011 and we are a family of 4. There are 2 about at the moment the new for 2014 mk 2 in brown and the pre 2013 in blue

If you are not too fussed about the writing Gary at Cross Camping has some Outwell Montana promotion tents for £300. If your not aware Gary owns a retail camping shop and often posts help and advice on UK Campsite. Give Gary a call if you have any questions.

That looks interesting. The writing doesn't bother me too much, I was worried about if they'd been put up for ages and faded, but it appears they are 'brand new'
Need to investigate the difference between this and the 'p' version
Hi
Its the front the old montana has the straight front the P has the panoramic shaped front thats the main difference also the size and design of the windows are a bit different, size wise pretty much the same.

We have an outwell montana (probably about 5 years old now) I dont know if the new ones are the same but in ours you can have it as 2 seperate rooms, roll the middle up to have 1 big room or do what we always did, have 2 rooms and unzip the bit in the middle for early morning chats.
Its a brill tent, never had a single drip of rain in and barely moved in gales whcih left other tents trashed and abandoned.
The only thing i would warn you on is that the downside of the sturdyness is that it is quite heavy. We are having to get rid of ours as our kids are now older teenagers and not so keen on camping. I've got a dodgy back and its too much for hubby to do on his own.
I purchased the promo montana 6 the other day, it came yesterday and we put it up earlier.
Boy it's big, our garden isn't quite big enough really and I think we need to practice as it was ridiculously hard to get the pins in (even fully loosened) and ended up a bit wonky. Right hand side was perfect, left hand side was 6 inches off the floor

We always had that problem too (never 6" though). I think its because we always thread the poles from the right so the roof material was pulled more to that side. (took us a couple of seasons to suss that gem out! )
Our garden was too small as split level so we rang a local campsite, explained our predicament and asked if we could hire a pitch for a few hours to practice. This time of year they're not that busy. I think we gave them £5.

I think it may be faulty, tried again later on and it's still ridiculously hard to get the pins in, noticed that the roof material was pulled to one side like you mentioned, it's impossible to move it though as it's really taught both sides.
It's this far out though...
Have tried everything to move it but it won't budge.
