Apologies if this has already been posted previously, I know there are hundreds of posts about Bell Tents!

I put up our Bell Tent Standard today from Belltent.co.uk and I am really happy with the whole tent except I had real problems tucking in the mud guard as the groundsheet is already pegged down. I couldn't get the mud guard to go around the pegs or sit propely and I wished at that point that I had spent more and got the ZIG version!

I have read that some bell tent owners unpeg the groundsheet once all their gear is in so that the mud guard can be tucked in properly which is an option. With two kids and a dog I would like to have a really secure seal around the tent. I thought that I could simply put in some eyelets so that I could peg the mud guard down then have the  un pegged groundsheet on top.

Belltent.co.uk say not to do that as it will cause the mud guard to rip, however, Soulpad bell tents come with eyelets in the mud guards!

Has anybody put eyelets into a mud guard of a bell tent? I thought that I could strengthen the area first with a rubber patch then put on the eyelet to help prevent too much tension on the fabric. I don't want to do this though if there is a high chance of the fabric tearing.

Any advice will be greatly received and I do listen! I went from a 4m bell to a 5m after reading/posting on this site. It really is helpful....

Thank you for the replies, it really is appreciated. Raf, one more question for you (sorry!) How did you put the eyelets in? I'm not sure if I need to put a patch down first or just the eyelet. I have been told that it will rip the mud guard but as you say there isn't going to be that much tension...
