Just bought a Vango Genesis 500 as a weekend / short stay tent. Only had it up in the garden so far but an instant observation is the attention detail of Vango vs Outwell. We have an Outwell Wolf Lake 5 from 2011 and when we got it I had to spend a long time cutting off loose threads and applying seam sealer to loose ends. Overall it's a lovely tent but we were really surprised by this kind of quality of finish. By contrast, the new Vango doesn't appear to have any of these kind of issues and also has come with top quality bags for everything from the tent to the pegs to the carpet. I used to think of Outwell as the Mercedes of tents - especially their poly cotton ones, and that Vango were more of a Ford. Now I'm thinking that they're pretty equal or even Vango are better - certainly on quality. Anyone else with thoughts on this?

Just bought a Skoda, fab car really solid and excellent value!
Used to have a Vango Tigris, fab tent really solid and excellent value !
However I really wanted a polycotton tunnel and ended up going over to Outwell, did feel a bit of a deserter, would have stayed with Vango if they'd had similar polycotton tent. Oh well the outwell is really nice and being bright orange doesnt look like all my mate's outwells, would hate to look like one of the crowd
I've had several Vangos and have always been impressed with them. I don't think you can compare a polycotton tent with a polyester tent though as they are two different animals.
I've always found Vangos to be well made, good quality, and to be honest, I think its more of a brand image thing. Given this year's crop of manky green Outwell polyester tents I would go Vango every time.

I agree that poly cotton and polyester are completely different animals but it wasn't the material I meant more the attention to detail which really surprised me about outsell. Don't get me wrong, we love our wolf lake .. It's the best! But I wouldn't expect to by a merc and the have to go round trimming off carpet ends and filing off rough bits of plastic!

as owner of a 2012 trout lake4, 2012 bear lake 6 and 2013 concorde L i can tell you that outwell are nowhere near the mercedes of tents - go see a Karsten or a De waard to see the mercedes of tents! - what you said is an insult to mercedes!!!
vango may well be the ford of tents - i can tell you that Outwell are the vauxhall.
both are good. but neither come light years near a karsten or de waard in terms of quality - they are mass produced in china in large numbers.
