Has there been a previous debate on this subject ? I would like a tent thats easy to pitch on my own that I can stand up in, with seperate living area and two bedrooms .......OR ....... do I consider a bell tent, are they heavy to lift the centre pole in to position ( I have problems with my back )
Any suggestions ??

Have a look at the Vango Midas 400. Dead easy to pitch solo, two bedrooms, decent living area and lots of headroom to stand up - that's one reason why I got it as my Kampa Minnis didn't have the height and was giving me dreadful backache. I got the Midas just before Easter, used it for the second time last weekend and I love it. I've just posted a couple of pics on my blog if you're interested.

Hi
In answer to your question any 3 poled tunnel tent should be easy to pitch solo, polyester will be much lighter and less bulky than polycotton/canvas
and fibreglass poles will be lighter than steel ones and an inflatable tent will be even easier to pitch

I have a Gelert Atlantis 4 which I can put up on my own - though of course would be easier with 2

Thanks for replies, ....iv actually got an outwell nevada m I love it but with my back problem pulling it up from ground to standing (if u know what I mean ) can be a bit of a trial....iv been lucky on my first two 'solo' camps iv had offers of help which was very much appreciated, , but there will be times when help won't be on hand, , so much as I love the tent, I have to consider other options,....I suppose the airbeams have to be the obvious choice, but the cost for one similar to 'm' is a stumbling block at the mo.

I invested in a bell tent as I often pitch solo - but you would need an inner tent if you wanted bed rooms. I found it dead easy to pitch having struggled with fbre glass poles and pins with Vango's etc. I suppose lifting the middle pole could be considered heavy, but once that is done the tent is pretty much errect and the bonus is it is just one pole.

Some places let you go & try before you buy - including the putting up - might be worth it before you spend loads.

Good luck

I'm not sure how you pitch the Nevada but if you type into youtube "Outwell Nevada m pitching video" and find near the top of the list the video with a fat bloke in a grey shirt putting it up you might find you can do it.

I have seen the video, and to be honest I can do it, ...I think it depends on how im feeling on the day, I had thought about taking the bedroom out to lighten the load when pulling it up, but then youv got to phaff about refitting it again, and thats one of the benefits of a one pitch tent isnt it. I think il just have to toughen up lol .

In my opinion, there is no easyer tent to erect on your own than the classic Vango Force 10. they are fool proof and bomb proof. Also pitched Icarus 500 on my own without too much bother, though wouldnt like to do it on a windy day when it turns into a kite!!

If money is no object then look at an air tent - all can be pitched solo and you can go as big as you like!

Otherwise for standing room look at the following (by order of cost): Easy Camp Boston 300, Outwell Birdland 3, Kampa Southwold 4+2

Thanks for all your input, I have compromised and got a gelert cabana 4...... l suppose some would call it the poor mans tipee as its not canvas, but its only one pole, the fabric is very light, and it wasnt expensive. I did a test pitch ...it was up in 10 mins......perfect.
I will use this for my 2 night breaks and use the nevada m for longer stays, ( its just for me and my dog.)
The fun part if this is the colour of the cabana, its the Liberty Rock ...or Purple to you and me lol, ....very hippy chick,
.....for a granny of 5 thats quite something ha ha .

Actually I think you chose well! In a way it's a pity that the old ridge tents are completely out of production now as I have an old one that takes 4 or 5 minutes to put up. It has two similar height upright poles and one long pole that hangs between them. Then there's two more upright poles at the front to create a bit of a porch. Your new Cabana has the same sort of porch configuration, but with only one pole at the back it's a doddle to put in place, and being poly it's not heavy. I love the 'liberty rock' you'll be the coolest Gran for miles! You could even go for a purple rinse to match!
