It seems to be okay. I wondered whether rain would get in through the stitching holes but I've only had a bit of a drip once in heavy continuous rain.

I haven't fitted it to the 5m bell. The inside of the tent does get quite smoky so I'm keeping the 5m as my clean tent.

Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I have finished creating my flashing kit entrance. Well, to be honest, my mother did most of the work. And terrible work it was. If i knew how to post pictures i would not only post pictures of the beautiful result, but also of her bloody fingertips.

In your first post you ask 'if ... has a sewing machine'. I found out a normal sewingmachine is not able to do most of the sewing in this job, handsewing is asked. It isn't a sewingmachine you need, it's a loving mother

But thanks alot for your manual! Can't wait trying it out (i will the first week of may).

No blood on the canvas, I hope! Oh dear, it sounds like a struggle but hopefully you will enjoy using your stove now. I used an ordinary sewing machine for mine (well, a 1961 Singer) which coped fine - no hand sewing at all. The greatest difficulty was feeding all that fabric through. It would be much more awkward with a 5m bell.

I'm just about to take delivery of my Orland stove and am super excited. This tutorial is fantastic.

I see you used a sewing machine but mine is really temperamental plus I have a lotus belle 5m which has so much fabric I might have to do this by hand!

We did ours last weekend, before our tent blew away in the wind.
We just dont have the skills to sew it and although I borrowed a sewing machine, there was simply no way to put the fabric through the machine to do it, I couldnt see a way the fabric would fit.

So, we cut a hole, cut the holes for the fixings and went for it. We plan to keep a tennis ball or rubber ball in the hole in the summer.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have searched high and low for something like your amazing instructions. I致e just bought a polycotton bell tent (210gsm) and I知 too worried about attaching a glue kit without reinforcing the cut, as I think that overtime it may fray the fabric.

Can I ask how you fed the fabric through the machine? I have a conventional machine and can稚 figure out how you can do this with the amount of fabric that needs to be fed. I知 thinking of positioning the stove very similarly to you, and it is also a 4m tent.

Lastly, how has your tent aged? Have you had any rust from the eyelets you used? And would you change how you designed the flap after using it for a few years?

Sorry - one more questions, how do you pack the tent away? Do you leave the flue in place? Or do you dismount it?

Hi armchair, this is a very old post and thank you so much for it! I知 about to do these alterations on my bell tent, but I知 hesitant about the eyelets, as I fear they may prevent a good seal between the flashing kit parts. Have the eyelets worked for you? Thank you.

Oh, sorry Sromeg. I've just searched for this old post to see if the photos were still there and I saw your questions. It's probably a bit late to reply but to answer your questions:

I fed the fabric through the machine with patience and awkwardness! My tent has a zipped in groundsheet so I wasn't feeding that through as well, just the canvas.

I haven't had any rust from the eyelets and they don't seem to affect the seal.

The flap design has always worked okay and I've never thought of changing it.

I remove the flashing kit when I pack the tent away.

The last time I used the bell tent with the stove was during lockdown last year, out in the garden. Everything still working fine! The tent is 12 years old now so it's doing well.

Hope you succeeded with fitting your flashing kit.
