Hi everyone

We have a mojave 5 tent and wondered on the best way to pitch this type of tent. It has only 3 poles which bend right over and then ring and pin type fitting. My question is this, whilst the tent is flat on the ground and i've fed the three poles through, would it be wise to connect one side of the ring and pin and then lift up to form the shape? this way sounds easier but would it put strain on the fibreglass poles?

thanks for any advise guys <img align="absmiddle" src="forum_images/smiley4.gif" width="17" alt="17">

If you peg the tent down first, as long as the front door is open, form the hoops from the first (front) pole and the tent will more or less 'pop up'. It's the now famous Gary Cross method

The vid is a different tent but any three pole tunnel tent will work out the same.

Pitching the Gary way is much much easier. The added benefit if it's a bit windy then pegging all four corners first will stop the tent flysheet blowing away. Although it's easy for one person to pitch a tent this way, as with all family size tents if it's a bit windy then best with two people.

I tried the method with my Icarus last weekend, and was quite surprised how easy it was. I did try that method once before, but I didn't know to keep the door open and it didn't work at the time and had to unpeg the tent again.

I have also learnt to do the same in reverse when taking the tent down. I was striking the tent with 'help' from a teen and we made the mistake of taking out the front pole (nearest door) first, then middle then back. What we were left with was a large bubble of air that was stubbornly refusing to diffuse.
