Hello Campers,

Wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I'm after an Outwell Wolf Lake 7, but can't decide between the 2012 and the 2013 model. Does anyone here have any experience of both?

After a couple of years in a Khyam Montreal, we've decided we'd like a poly cotton tent as the polyester Khyam was just too hot in the sun. We like the size of the Montreal (imagine big blue polyester aircraft hangar and you won't be far off), and the fact it has three separate bedrooms, but want something similar that won't be stifling when the sun comes out.

We've narrowed our choice down to the Wolf Lake from Outwell but can't decide between the 2012 and the 2013 model. The 2012 we can get for £1000, but can't get hold of a ground sheet for it as they've been discontinued, whereas we can get the 2013 as a package including groundsheet & carpet for £1399.

Can anyone give us some pointers? Or maybe there's a tent out there that we haven't come across that fits the bill?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Both super tents but I feel the 2013 is just that bit more stable due to the pure curve frame ( I should copyright that) . What I mean by pure curve is just that, it's a nice curve, the 2012 model has more upright sides and a flatter roof which is good for space but not so good with a heavy wet canvas... Just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply Gary. I don't suppose you know if the footprint for the 2013 tent extends all the way to the front of the awning? I've not seen any pictures online showing the tent on top of the footprint.

I don't but going by all the other Outwell footprints I imagine it will just go under the sewn/zip in ground sheet.

Ah I see. Thanks for that. The room dimensions of the two tents are very similar, so I might see if the 2013 footprint will fit underneath the 2012 tent.

Had a look at a 2013 bear last weekend not impressed AT ALL we have a 2009 NORFY and compared to this the blinds are thin and cheapy, the groundsheet is thinner the windows dont open and the horizontal bracing poles have gone.

We have the 2013 Wolf 7. Amazing tent!! We were camping last week with a friend who has the 2012 one. Also an amazing tent!! Both with their own plus points.

Plus points for 2012 model
- The windows can be opened for ventilation, but not on the 2013
- Like Gary says, because of the straighter sides, you get a little more standing space

Plus points with 2013 model
- tinted windows for privacy
- you can enclose the front porch, with an awning door
- you get a hanging wardrobe

With the footprint, I can confirm, it only covers the main tent, not the awning section.
However, you can always buy a footprint from another tent that will fit!! Or, just leave it out! If it rains, it could become slippery!

Or buy a trap for the front far cheaper.
