Just getting started in the camping world and looking for first tent. It's for me and GF, so just the two of us, but room for storage + a nice big living area to stand in, and sit in evenings.

I'd like to cook inside if weather isn't good, and have the doors with FLY sheets, so that mozies and flys don't get in.

I'd like a sewn in ground sheet too.

I've looked through the tent reviews, but struggling to make a reasoned decision.

Any personal recommendations?

Thanks although 6 man is a bit too big!

However, I'm looking through Blacks now because of the 15% offer - some good tents available!

I think I may go for:

Vango Icarus 500. It's a 5 man tent but I like the idea of extra room - would rather have too much than not enough and be all cramped up.

the reason I posted the Lommond was the front canopy will be good for cooking under, I personally wouldn't cook using gas in a tent with sewn in groundsheet.

Tynxuk - I was a bit hasty... that 6 man tent seems perfect.

The way I see it is:

Me and GF sleep in one side of the tent, other side for storage. Main area for eating and sitting, and outside for cooking under canopy.

Great suggestion and only £187!

Absolutely we started with a 6 berth and did exactly that.

The other alternative is to go for something slightly smaller with a sun canopy to cook under that way if you just pop off for the weekend you don't have to lug such a big tent.

The choice is yours Gary! Plenty to choose from out there and you can spend as little or as much as you like.I am biased towards Vango and have had a huge number of tents through my hands.A big factor in your choice is your transport...how much space you have available.I am lucky in having plenty of space and choose to use a vango maritsa 500 for the 2 of us.Ticks all the boxes and i think currently available at go outdoors in blue for £250...if still available?.If you have the room buy the best you can afford--it will serve you well and be a lot more comfortable if the weather turns bad.The offer at Blacks for the vango icarus 600 runs out at midnight tonight if that tent appeals to you...£315 down to £199 and then almost another £30 off at the till+++free delivery.Plenty of iccy fans on here to recommend it!If you are buying from e-bay..try to see the tent pitched first..not everybody is a thieving scoundrel..but there are some out there.Whatever you decide--enjoy your camping

PS a happy Girlfriend is much easier to share a tent with

otherwise they just moan-groan -winge-grump-whine-bleat and then decide you need a caravan! Choose wisely!!

Being of the female species myself I would prefer the Lommond over the Zenobia especially if the 'spare room' is for storage as its just the partition away rather than unzip the bedroom pod, walk across the tent and unzip the storage pod. Us girlies tend to 'need' to access our bag for various reasons during camping not just to access clothes in the morning
