I have seen one of these in the flesh and I would think that it would be fine if pitched correctly

Depends on the weather, personally I would not. Even if its sunny all summer, it can age the canvas.

Potentially yes, it would be bettter than a nylon tent, but it will age the tent a lot. Why would you want to leave it up anyway, so easy and quick to put up and take down. I can pitch a bell tent from bag in 4 minutes if I have to.
