Hello,

Newbie here :) We recently purchased our first family tent in the form of a Kampa croyde 6 2012 model. It came as a package deal with the footprint and carpet. We purchased the canopy seperately.

We used it for the second time last weekend in Carnforth and experienced some bad weather on Saturday night. It stood up to the storm winds quite well apart from the front section having to be pegged back down again at 1:30 am :( I`m aware that this should be stowed away in poor conditions.

Our main concern was the amount of water the tent let in, it rained very very hard for around 3 hours. The rain eventually eased off but continued till approx 8:00 am. There were several large puddles of water in the tent and our guest who was staying in the main area was soaked. It appeared to be coming in from the various securing points holding the inner roof poles down and the zips on the side doors.

Two SIG straps also failed and didn`t look like they had been stiched correctly.

I have been offered a refund from the online supplier who I can`t fault really. My main concern is that this has kind of  put us off the Kampa now. We read lots of reviews - as you do - and liked the look of the Kampa and it`s built in front porch. I`m now stuck between buying an Outwell montana ( which my brother - in - law has) or the newer version of the Kampa?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated :)

Dan.

Hi
To be honest ive had 3 Kampa tents including a Croyde 6 and not had a problem with any of them so it wouldnt put me off buying another. With any brand you will always find one or two rogue tents that slip through. There were quite a few reports of leaking Montanas last year so Outwell are not immune from having faults.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply :) I think we had read a couple of your posts on the kampa. The main body of the tent stood up well to the weather, it just seemed to be leaking from the little blue tie backs on each of the interior poles. Like you say it might just of been a poor batch.

Its a shame because the Croyde is a nice tent hope you get it all sorted and end up with a leak free tent

I have a Montana 6 bought in 2009. It is slightly smaller to the later models
We have have been unlucky to have camped in snow, torrential rain and galeforce winds, then this year a heatwave, but as long as the vents have been left open We have found our Montana 6 wonderful.
Our tent has seen us dry when other tents around us in bad weather have collapsed or had parts blown away.
Hope this helps.

That's a shame, my Croyde is in its third year and has withstood 45mph winds, torrential rain and I have never taken the canopy down even in bad weather. Think you were obviously just unlucky, glad the retailer came good
