Thinking about going camping next summer with our 8 kids (who will be 17years down to 18months) What style of tent will be easiest to pitch as well as find a pitch for? Would we fit 10 people in a bell tent? thanks :)

only joking im youngest out of 8 kids and with 4 of my own erm good luck camping with them all lol
as for tents what about a frame tent? most have 3 double bedrooms and then its easy to hang another couple of sleeping inners from the frame and give plenty of room for your brood inside if the weather is bad
im not a lover of the massive nylon tents but some of the more expensive tunnel ones look quite sturdy with the steel/ally poles as opposed to the fibreglass ones
stay well away from skandika on ebay they look massive but are very poor quality
An Emperor Bell would fit you all or one of the new 6M or 7M Bells that are available now. We've had 5 in our 5M Bell and that was definitely at capacity for me (my older children are in their 20's so no small children to squeeze in unfortunately).
A pup tent may be an option for a couple of your older teens perhaps?
I can only answer this from the view of someone who owns a 10birth tent - the HiGear Kalahari 10.This tent has 2x3 person "rooms" and 2x2 person rooms. One of the reasons we love it is it has so much space. We mainly use it for camping wth the cubs/scouts where pitch sizes are not an issue.
I (Dad) can normally get the footprint down and the outer tent up in 30 minutes wth the assistance of my 14 year old daughter if the wife is off chatting somewhere. We have never had an problems with leaks or poles breaking.
My one gripe about this tent is the porch which in theory is great but is difficult to fit and doesn't seem to fit properly with the tent. I understand that HiGear, who make the tent, have now discontinued it. We are considering changing the tent for a Vango Maritsa 700 - which probably wouldn't meet your needs.

I would consider buying a 6/7 person tent to house you and the younger kids, together with all your kit, and get a couple of smaller tents for the older ones to sleep in.
Vango Icarus 1000....package deal on e-bay at the moment for £261.99 at jr stores ..near leicester..or £10 postage.Item number---181203117404---.You can also buy a side extension for this tent.Loads of "iccy" fans on here.
Just watch when you book some sights only allow a maximum of 6 people per pitch. Found this out when we had visitors to stay was 7 of us in total luckly they allowed us, but got a good stern talking to and knuckles wrapped.

Why do people always say Skandika are poor quality? We had a Skandika Nimbus, lovely tent, also good quality with a high HH of 4000. We had many a good holiday in it with no problems. Sold it on last year as it was too big now it is only the two of us. Regret selling it

Welsue's other half and also a ,Camper, Sailor and a nearly Outdoor Person.
We have a Vango Salong 900, states 9 people but with younger 1's it would easily sleep 10+ the extra bedroom pod woul sleep 3 but on diagrams sleeps 2 due to a slight narrowing of the pod towards the back.Still huge space when all pods in use. Side porch is fixed so no extra pitching of a canopy. Took us 1.5 hrs start to finish to put up tent hubby did all guys whilst i did all inside that was for 4 of us.
Anywyas if you are thinking of buying 2nd hand we are selling ours on the free ads here.
Photos in the review section on here.
Reason for selling as we do love the tent ...we want a polycotton for next years trips.
If your wanting private space then a Bell or tipi wouldn't suit . But if your just after simple space a 5 or 6m bell or tipi would do . Why not consider smaller tents for the older kids and bell or tipi as a main tent
I have a friend with 8 kids, similar age range as yours. They have a massive bell tent and love it. Personally, I'd want a tunnel tent with bedrooms, but each to their own!!!
