Hello campers,

At the moment we are tentless , but we are hoping to rectify this soon. We're pretty sure that a bell tent is on the cards, but now I've noticed that belltent.co.uk have something called an Emperor bell tent. Now this looks pretty good in the photos, and the reviews on here are also favourable.

So, I have a couple of questions for the Emperor owners out there. Does it offer that much more space than a regular 5m bell tent? And how long does it take & how difficult is it to put up?

It offers quite a bit more useable space than the 5M and is a lovely space to stay in.It takes us 15 mins to erect but another 10/15 to peg out. It's really easy to put up, could easily be put up by one person but we do it together. Oh and it can survive a storm or two!

Would agree with above, the footprint isnt much bigger but the extra useable space comes from the increased head hight inside, with it being rectangular its a lot easier to organise the tent into different zones ie cooking, sleeping etc if that makes sense.

We put it up with two of us and wouldnt really like to try raising the poles solo although I know it can be done, its not that much more complicated than a normal bell tent to erect. Be warned though if you have to pack wet the canvas weighs a ton and is a bitch to dry if you dont have enough space in your garden (voice of experience!)

We love it though and do hook up the 5m bell to one end for longer camps so if you ever need extra space you can always add on later. It is surprisingly stable in high winds given the size and height of the structure and having the two doors means you can get a good breeze through on warmer days.

Doesnt matter what site we stay at the tend always attracts attention so you have been warned, giving guided tours are part and parcel of owning one :)

I agree with all the above too. We love ours and were finally convinced (having already got a 4m bell) by Jayner.

Yes it is stable in wind but the canvas does move about. We came from an Outwell Norfolk Lake, which didn't move an inch in what ever was thrown at it, so it takes some getting used to.

Also agree that they attract attention. We even had some people come & take photos in France and the campsite referred to it as La Grande Anglais!
