I have just bought a Coleman Da Gama 6. It was a display model so needed re-proofing and I have yet to test it properly on a camping trip but first impressions, erected in my garden, are that it is a good tent and erects easier than any other tent I have had.
It has 3 seperate 2 man bedroom pods (two of which can be made into one by removing the divider. It has a small 'porch' or rain shelter above the front door, however, a proper extension can be purchased which will give you your cooking area/bike shed/dog kennel etc. The tent plus the extension should be within your price range, especially if you buy now.
There are a couple of videos on Utube including one showing how to erect it quickly (I erected mine first time in about half an hour)

Incidentally, once the inners are in place they can remain there and the whole tent can be erected in one. As stated I erected mine within half an hour (of the postman delivering it) on my own and had only seen the video. If you have a family to help you this tent could be erected in about 15 minutes (promise - lol)

I think people who like the Maritsa and the Outwell Vermont xl might be pleased to know that there is a new big boy on the seen for 2014. The Outwell Glendale 7.... Nice. Its like the Glendale 5 but has a similar width and bedroom layout as the Vermont xl but around the £650 mark.

We have used a Glendale 5 for a couple of seasons now, easy to pitch, very stable plus the front porch which can be used as a wet room if required, so the Glendale 7 may be worth a look. Have you looked at the Kampa Croyde 8 for 2014? Bags of room with a built on porch and three sleeping pods, can be bought for £500. The only downside would be the pack size for these tents though. There are two of us and we have the Glendale, and a Kampa Filey 6 Air the latter is a huge pack size and very heavy but we have got around this by using a fold up truck purchased from Maplins once on the truck I can move the tent on my own to and from the pitch.

i'm thinking you dont need a tent, rather what you need are tents. one for the adults and one for the boys and let the cocker decide which it prefers to share!

Very much agree with this. Teenage boys esp the 14yr old are at that age where they might suddenly not wanna be in same tent as mum & dad, seen as uncool etc etc.
but give them their own tent to put up, chill in etc and do what teenage boys do in their own space is important. - IF you want them to keep coming camping with you without putting up a fight and being awkward.
You can still have your own big mainly tent for meals etc, but a smaller separate tent for them seems an excellent idea.
