Use the Outwell Vermont side extension/awning. You need the flap of fabric to go over the top of the tent. Its also designed for the job.

You must need allot of space if the normal Awning is not enough!!
We have both the Awning and Extension for our Montana 6P and when they are both on the tent it is 10 meters long.
However there will be few times we use both so normally use just extension or just the awning.
I would say the same as Mr Cross use an Outwell Vermont side extension/awning though you might be limited on which campsites are wide enough.
