After what seems likes months of searching. both online and in store, have finally (I think) settled on the Kampa Croyde 6 or Vango Palena to replace our Khyam Ontario.

Really like the space that both offer. Am more drawn to the Vango, as the quality just seems better. I am aware that the Croyde has more of a canopy, but am thinking of getting the Vango with the canopy extension, but this would make it rather large! Has anybody any experience of using the Palena with the canopy? Is it manageable? I do like the fact that we could choose to use the Palena canopy or not, as it zips on.

Any thoughts of either of the tents and the Palena canopy would be much appreciated.

Im quite surprised that the quality of the Vango is better than the Kampa it certainly wasnt the case when we bought our 3 Kampas

Hi,
I had just recently narrowed my choice down to those two and the smara 600. After help and guidance from this forum we decided on the Croyde 6.

We also wanted to add the front canopy and carpet but unfortunately as the Palena 6 model is now discontinued you will not find them for love nor money.

The croyde 6 is still on the go for the 2014 season so finding additional accessories is not a problem including storm straps which sound very appealing to us. Another thumbs up for the Croyde 6 is the canopy, it looks great for cooking and can also be closed off with the vestibule which wont add to the overall dimensions and cost you anymore for pitching.

And if you dont want the canopy up it simply rolls back and ties to the front wall of the tent and if you want to go the other way the vestibule extends and closes off the canopy

Looks like more support for the Croyde!

I must admit I did like the Kampa, and did think that the quality was ok. A couple of questions though, we did look at an older model (the blue one). What are the differences between this model and the Series 2 (2012/13?) version? I was a bit concerned about the door nor closing fully at the bottom. Any other differences?

As for the Palena, the offer I have seen online is for tent, canopy and footprint, so would not need to buy anything else. I'm just, as I said, wondering whether the tent with canopy would be too large.

Never simple is it

the Brown mk 2 has the redisgned front door, additional vent, pockets for curtains, storm strap attachments and probably something else ive forgotten altogether a nicer tent than the Blue Mk1

The canopy on the Palena is a whopper. Some sites may charhe you extra for putting it up. I know the site we're looking at for this year charhes extra for the larhe canopy and even if it's an 8 man tent too. Just something to bear in mind.

I did see the one on Ebay, but wasn't quick enough unfortunately. Have you a link for the offer on Camping World? That does look a tempting offer. I can only see the Croyde 6 for that price without footprint and carpet.

My guess (and that's all it is) is, you are looking at the right one... but a 'phone call may be required, to see if they can "throw in any extras"!

Have bitten the bullet and gone for the Vango Palena package, including canopy and footprint. Hopefully being delivered tomorrow if the parcel tracking can be believed. In the end, we just liked the overall feel and layout, and the lights out inners of the Vango, and the quality of the fabric. Hopefully the canopy won't be too big, only time will tell. We often camp with another family so the canopy may be useful as a space for us to all dive in together. Just need some good weather to try it out.
