Cabanon have launched their new family tent model, the Moorea 440. Also available in a 5m wide version, the Moorea 500, they resemble the wonderful, tried and tested Biscaya, but with a movable front wall feature and mesh front panel.
It's clearly the tent version of the Chamonix trailer tent, which seems only to be available in Holland (not to be confused with their Chamonix tent (now discontinued).
As a Biscaya owner (plus several other Cabanon tents), I appreciate Cabanon style and quality, so want to know more. We've previously owned a Laguna (same principle, with movable front wall, but no SIG or ZIG) so I know you have to be pretty precise with your pitching, to enable this moving of the front wall. Even in pitching the Biscaya, you have to have the front all zipped up and door shut before raising the poles, so I'm wondering how workable this feature will be on the new Moorea. What does everyone think?
I do like the zip-in mesh panel, though (we holiday in France, a lot).
I wonder if all the windows - front and sides - have mesh panels, like the Biscaya? This is something which is lacking on the Awaya (which has a solid front window), which is why we prefer the Biscaya. We also like the all-season polyester canvas (lighter, tougher, easier to handle, and less prone to damage via mould and mildew) so the Moorea ticks all the boxes, in that respect.
The optional sun canopy and groundsheet for canopy area is going to hike the price up still further. I'm not sure I'd be happy to pay £3000+ for this package - it's quite a bit more than the equivalent size Biscaya - but I seriously would like one!
I think we're going to have to pay a visit to Cabanon's display, in Dunkerque, next time we're in France!
Anyone else tempted?!
