Hi there

A couple of weeks ago we lost our 12 man family tent in a caravan fire. Weeks earlier I had bought a huge tent footprint to use as a shelter tarpaulin but last night I won an auction for an outer flysheet for the tent below.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Leben-Hamburg/2842

All I really need now is the tent poles as for now I'm not that bothered about the pods. If I can get them in the future that will be a bonus but as money is tight, its not an urgent need.

Do any forum members know what sized poles I need for this tent, and also if possible, where I can find a copy of the tent instructions.

The outer flysheet and the footprint combined only cost very slightly over twenty quid so I'm hoping that I might even be able to get a load secondhand and make my own out of the sections.

The only real problem I can see is the length of the poles that hold the tent up to its standard height. Is there some sort of height chart available for dome tents that shows you the length to height ratio.

Sorry for babbling on.
Cheers Neil

There's the pi formula (d X π = C) which might be useful if the poles are intended to be of a constant radius (so that two sets would form a perfect circle) and if you knew the diameter of such a circle (presumably the diagonal distance across the centre hexagon, which I imagine would be difficult to ascertain without pitching!)

Unless anyone comes up with any pole measurements I think you may have to measure the pole sleeves, taking account of the distance from the sleeve to eyelet or ring and pin, then experiment with uncorded pole sections to find a suitable length.

Hi
From what I remember these tents were sold a few years ago on Ebay by a company called "Tentastic" and seemed to sell for well under £100. Normally we say to anyone who has bought a tent without poles forget it as the cost of the poles will be a lot more than the tent is worth

Thanks for your help.

I thought I would try my look today by posting on my local Freecycle/Trash Nothing site for the tent poles. All this bad luck we are having at the moment seems to be shifting as within about an hour a very kind gentleman offered me some.

When I arrived at his home a lovely pile of assorted sizes was waiting for me. This lot must have weighed 15/20 pound in weight and once sorted most of them were the sizes I needed. The red and yellow poles were at least six metres long once assembled so I'm guessing they are from a large dome tent.

It now looks likely that I will be able to use these and complete my cheap tent build. Its going to be fiddly, lots of trial and error and plenty of measuring, but beggars can't be choosers.
