Hi, I am new here and am looking to find the pitching size of the Vango Icarus 800. Can anyone help?

I have looked on the Vango website but can't seem to find it.

Many thanks

Wayne

According to that, 7.3 x 2.6. I tend to add a metre all round for guys, so a minimum of 9.3 x 4.6, plus any room required for car/trailer/outdoor seating area/cooking area/dog compound/kids scrambling area etc... etc... etc...

Thanks. I did see that.

Does that size actually indicate pitching size ie does a camp site pitches include guy ropes.

I'm new to this camping lark and still trying to work this one out.

Cheers.

Camp site pitches will vary from site to site. Some have fileds with a "Pitch where you want" approach, so effectively unlimited. Some will have fairly small pitches (eg 8m x 8m) and expect the likes of you to stump up for two pitches! Others, of course, will have reasonable sized pitches to accommodate MOST family tents, and still have room for the car etc.

If I understand you correctly, and the site you are looking at actually states a "pitching size", as opposed to a "pitch size", My guess would be that they are referring to how much room your tent takes up, including guys (i.e. the minimum space you require.) which would be the 9.3 x 4.6... but I stand to be corrected.

Either way, if you are looking at a specific site, give them a call. That way, you both know fully what to expect, and what is expected. Most sites are headed by extremely approachable folk!

Hi Mucker,

I had been looking at a number of sites just to see what was out there and some sites had pitch sizes and some were more general. So the information you have given really does help.

Cheers

Wayne

it is my understanding that the pitch size must include your guy ropes, which you can take to be about 1m beyond the footprint of your tent.

If you go for more basic campsites, you will generally find more relaxed pitch sizes and locations within the campsite (likely with no marked out plots). A more bells and whistles type campsite will maximize their income by having designated pitches and sometimes (happily not too often) they go overboard with squeezing these in.
