I'm Mick and I'm a camping virgin. I'm looking to get a 4 man tent with a tall living area (I'm 6'2") on a budget of around £100.
I've googled myself dizzy and read loads of reviews on here looking for a good deal and can't decide fir the life of me what to get
I thought I'd post up here and see what came back.
I guess I'm looking at a single sleeping space with large porch/living area. Sewn in groundsheet would be preferable but I'm open to a separate one in the living area if there's no other option.
Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.
All the best,
Mick

Hi and welcome. Me personally would maybe consider second hand with a £100 budget. You can drop on bargains in shops for new tents but there is a lot of rubbish out there which will be fine if the suns shining but will more than likely let you down if the weather turns bad, especially in wind. They may look a bit dated but you can get very cheap Cabanon frame tents on eBay which are breathable cotton canvas and will stand up to the very worst British weather. Just make sure you get one that's well looked after and complete as some are very tatty. It's always difficult when starting camping as you don't want to lay out a fortune in case it's not for you but on the other hand, buying a bin liner of a tent that collapses and blows away in the middle of the night will put you off for life. This is a common occurrence!! So it's a bit of a balancing act and I'm not saying you can't get a good tent for £100 because you can, just take your time and choose well. A visit to a good local camping shop and asking advice may also help. Good luck.
Also, there is a seller on eBay called camping resources who sells all sorts of stuff, there's tents that people have sent back with minor defects or some that nothing wrong with them, that kind of thing. One tip though, if it's an ex display tent that's been outside all summer, don't touch it with a barge pole.

Perhaps not until you are more experienced with tents but I have just bought an ex display model for £35. The new price would have been over £300. I have silicon sprayed it on the outside (cost £22) to replenish the water beading properties but apart from that it appears to be a pretty good tent. For a total of £57 if it lasts a couple of years of regular camping it will be money well spent.

If you are going to consider upping your budget then I would recommend the Gelert Cabana 4. It's a huge head height inside at the peak (it's a sort of modified tepee) which gives it a feeling of spaciousness. I've got the black 'wave dimension' colour and I love it. I only got it recently and can't wait to go camping in it.

Welcome and enjoy!
4people, single sleeping area? Are you a close family or do you just like lots of space.
I think we have all made rash decisions on tents. Google is great, here is better , but we all have our favourite makes 'n' models ( mine is the Coleman Evolva ) but I would not buy ( but never say never ) another Coleman due to there "major lack of customer service and back up"
You haven't said where you are , you might get some help on where to look. My suggestion has to be "go and have a look at some erected tents" see which style you like first., speak to knowledgeable staff, "once you have looked"
Then look at ebay , the for sale on here , see one you like look at the tent reviews on here again and go for it.
Good luck
