Just a quick note of caution...

Shipping a family size tunnel tent will cost a LOT of money - probably running into hundreds of dollars. (if you're looking at expedition tents, it will still be expensive!)

You could almost end up spending as much in shipping as you spend on the tent.

The question is - do you want to pay that much over the odds for a specific type of tent?

It is difficult to advise without knowing the type of use the tent would be put to i.e. backpacking, family car camping etc. but I would think that you must be talking about a fairly lightweight tent or, as dmsplat says, the cost would be prohibitive.

As spirit burner above says Hilleberg are excellent and Macpac are also good lightweight tents. If you want something cheaper then I would also consider a Vango Omega or similar but, bearing in mind that these are going to be heavier and so presumably more costly to transport, it may be better to bite the bullet and go for the better tent.

Coleman do several tunnel ranges for Europe (see Coastline & Lakeside) that are reasonably priced over here. Is there any way you could get a US Coleman dealer to divert one of these over there for you?

We had a Marechal tunnel tent for several years: see here for range, they are available through english stockists, too.
Weathered a range of wind/rain/storm scenarios without any real problems .... only water cascading through the front section which didn't have a sewn in groundsheet.
Otherwise, correctly pegged and guy-lined ... great.

Hello from America,

I have a question for you all. The tunnel design tents have never caught on in America but I love the design and am thinking of buying one from the U.K. and having it shipped here. My question is how do they stand up in high wind?

Thanks.
