Hi

Although the pump we got with our Vango Airbeam has the ability to "deflate" as well as "inflate" there didn't appear to be a nozzle that fits the larger hole in the beam for helping to get any residual air out... Is this a task meant to be done by hand? or have I missed something obvious - so any advice appreciated.

To deflate an AirBeam you just unscrew the valve assembly from the beam and let nature take it's course.

You get all the air out by ensuring you repack the tent so you're rolling it the right way to expel any air left in the beams i.e. start the roll at the non-valve end.

I appreciate that it would be nice to get all the air out more quickly than as described but that's just the way it is. The pump supplied is simply generic and can deflate in other scenarios like air beds etc.

Hi when we've deflated our airbeams we are on our 3rd now. We unscrew the non return valve this let's most of the air our the I tale my shoes off and go onto the the tent and starting at the end of each airbeam push any remaining air out by hand this was the way shown to me by Gary cross and I think he knows a bit about inflatable tents
Also the way you roll the tent back up helps this
You need to bring the rear off the tent into the middle then the front back to the middle then repeat these steps until it's small enough to fit into its bag. Then roll the tent up towards the open end of the airbeam this expels most of any remaining air left in the beams
By using this method we've always got our airbeams back into the bag without a problem

The pumps are a standard pump that,s made for many inflatable products so the deflate part will not work on the inflatable tents due to the none return valve. I have never seen a fitting big enough for the big outlet.

Thank you All, that's super useful advice.

I had been folding the tent all wrong, no wonder I struggled to get it back in the bag!

The methods described should certainly get the residual air out of the beams easily without the need for a pump.   It's Vango 500 flux so only two beams - hopefully I can pack it first time and quickly on the next attempt.

Our first airbeam was a flux 500
When striking camp remember to leave all the doors open then pack away as described above

Just to follow up. We just enjoyed our first night in our new airbeam tent and followed the advice given above regarding deflating the airbeam and - most important - folding it correctly - we had no problems at all in getting the tent packed in to it's bag this time (on first attempt!). Thanks all!

I've just tried the instructions above and must be getting my directions mixed up as I can barely get my Infinity 600 back in the bag! It's grown each time we've used it and now takes up most of our boot so any additional tips greatly appreciated!

When we had our eternity 600 and now our Eden
We roll the tent up as described above then put the tent bag on top of the tent and pull as much of the bag over the tent
Then roll the whole thing over so the bag is the right way and start stuffing as much of the tent into the bag until it's all in
This is how we've done on the advice given from Gary at cross camping

Thanks. I've printed out the instructions so we can try them this weekend in a field rather than me having a go on my own in the living room! Fingers crossed we can reclaim some car as we can barely fit in!

Hi. (My first post on here, and 2 years late...)

We've got an Edoras 600XL, and have been wondering this ourselves.
We've camped three times this year with it.

I did acgtually use the pump, on deflate, without the valve and gauge. It took a lot of effort, but did remove the air.

However, we were rolling the tent along itself - so parallel to the beams.

After watching the Attwools video, we now know how to do it properly!

Using a pump to deflate the beams.
Not sure it was on these forums but it was definitely NOT recommended and can cause problems with the beams if you try and "suck" too much out....can anyone else comment ?

It may have been the root cause of my twisted bedroom beam, and potentially yours too ?

I do it with all my tents, not only my inflatable.

But a good tip for getting rid of air etc so you get a nice flat tent to roll up as follows.

Fold the tent to the width of the bag, then don't worry about the looks you're about to get, and lie down down the folded up tent and roll towards the other end (in the case of an inflatable this is rolling towards the valves). This gets rid of any air left in the beams/air inside the tent itself.

Granted you may get some funny looks. But at least you get your tent in the bag easily. :)

Not sure why you need the pump to deflate? We have the vango edoras 500xl and as soon as the valve is opened, 90% of the air rushes out. Leaving the valves open and rolling the tent towards them pushes the rest of the air out easily.

Quick folding tip,

Use the bag as a guide, so line it up parallel to the tent and fold as close to inside that width and with all doors etc half open roll from back to front squeezing out any air as you go. Works every time 😃
