if anyone is going to actually test this theory - please take a thermometer and take pics of the readings
id like actual figures, not just people perceptions of it feeling warmer.
ill try do same as i carry an outdoor thermometer in my kitchen box!
will be really interesting to see the results of how much actual temperature difference a sheet of polyester or polycotton or cotton actually makes!

It would be good to gather that data but it would be interesting to have humidity levels checked as well, as heat retention is not the only thing that makes us 'feel' warmer.
My understanding was that the space between the inner and the outer acted somewhat like the space in a cavity wall - it's not the matertial itself (be it block or fabric) but the space itself that created a barrier which locks in heat and keeps out cold. Obviously I appreciated that you will not get the same performance from a fabric that you would from a concrete block or brick.

Delayed reaction alert:
Sorry, was flying out of the country when certain posts were made....
Brickiemum:
No, not tried them, but have been assured that the pods are too short, due to the extremely shallow slope from roof to floor. Will be physically checking a camp bed at next Karsten show, for my own peace of mind!
Hankers:
I'll be asking James to check to see if Karsten will make a bespoke slapper-boudoir, or whatever they're called, that will be long enough for camp beds. That would be option one, even if it does bump the price up!
Although, I do like the sound of two separate bedrooms, one either side of main pod. Unfortunately, my 14 year crusade for separate beds at home has yet to come to fruition, so I fear separate rooms will fall on deaf ears!
Splendid:
Re single skin, I'm only used to double skin where bedrooms are concerned. I'm obviously expecting the Karsten to perform even better than the current polycotton tents we have, when sitting around in the (single skin) living area we currently have. Will have fan heater in the winter, as we do now, along with as many layers as required. As for bedtime, although our current bed pod is double skin (with a polycotton inner) we do switch the heater off. For warmth, I fully expect our superb fishing bags to perform as well as they do now, so not too concerned, and fully expect to still be comfortable with plenty of open vents. Although with us then sleeping and breathing in a single skin tent, I'll give your concerns about condensation serious consideration, and ask a few questions on that point. Good point well made. No complaints so far, from existing users though (that I'm aware of), but have they camped through the winter? I strongly suspect Hankers will be next winter though!
You mention buying an inner for yours... was that a Karsten, or some "home made/make do and mend" job? I'd be interested to hear more on that.
I do agree totally with campernic, that it's the gap (cavity) that makes the difference, rather than the material itself. How much difference is the conundrum though!
Many thanks for your kind offer of a loan, but I think I'm so convinced all will be fine, I think I'll politely decline, for now at least.
And finally, I know next to nothing about rugby, but as for your recent promotion to the land of milk and money, you have my utmost and sincere congratulations, but after Saturday, it is my sad duty to inform you that you will have to represent the East Midlands alone. (I'm just so glad I didn't get back from abroad in time to actually be there in person! Watching at home on TV was heartbreaking enough!!)
Hang on in there... we'll try and join you next year!

my single skin Karsten is the most comfortable tent iv ever been in.
the atmosphere inside is extremely comfortable and it certainly doesnt need the " available to order " inner tent bedrooms to feel warmer / dryer or whatever.
however this open plan arrangement is less likely to be suitable for families with children where visual privacy might be needed, but for a couple or a single person it can work rather well.
