I am looking to purchase my first (albeit second hand) 6 man tent.
I have found a 2006 Montana 6 with canopy for £150. One of the poles has a slight kink but apparently this does not affect the structure. Any advice?
Does the 2006 model differ greatly to the later models? Any other similar sized tents that I should consider? Budget is up to about £300 (2nd hand) for the right tent.

Do you know how much use it's had? remember it's an 8 year old tent so may be at the end of its life!
I'm not a lover of the Monty (having bought one, tried to erect it in the wind and failed so sold it on) but if £300 is your budget you may find something much newer (or even new), the Kampa Croyde or Hi Gear Corado comes to mind .
I think the older Montys don't have the porch area on the side door.
As Tynzuk said, you could find a newer Monty (if you liked that tent) for £300 there are lots on ebay.
I bought ours second hand on ebay to see if camping suited us, its a good choice of tent cos it so popular bits and pieces are always available for it second hand, just gotta be patient, watch and wait for good quality items to come up.
Yes thank you . I just so wondered whether it was worth paying double for a tent a couple or so years newer ? I've been camping for some time with a 4 man tent but just need extra room now (for as cheap as poss lol) but also wanted a tent with good pedigree ?

I fully understand the need for a bargain but often worry about how used some second hand items are. I would rather pay a bit more for a new/newer item than have it fail first use.
BTW I sold the Monty I had as age & usage unknown (it did have the side porch) with matching canopy & windbreak with a new in box camping chef plus for £150 hence not convinced you are looking at a bargain.
have a look at the sunncamp triumph 400 on ebay, slight seconds just ring an pins a bit rusty, you can take one of the bedroom pods out to give you more room, it has a storage area, living room, covered entrance, steel poles, read the reviews on here, i bought one and have only had a practise pitch but i am more than happy with it,

Hi from memory of our early (2007) Montana, the one without the side porch, it was only 400cm wide the new ones are 415cm so poles and fitments will be different and not interchangeable.
As has been suggested previously as this tent is 8 years old and has a problem with a pole I would be inclined to spend a bit more of your budget and buy something newer.
A decent Kampa Croyde 6 can be picked up on Ebay for under £250 and they are very nice tents with an inbuilt front extension. I would walk away from any tent which has the words " does not affect " any where in the description. Have a look at the reviews on this site
Hope this helps a bit

Ah thank you all - I posted my original posting as I wasn't sure at all and I'm glad you've pointed me in the right direction... This is a great site !
so after looking around at new and second hand - I appear to have stumbled across an almighty bargain!...An Outwell Vermont L brand new from Craigdon Mountain Sports on Ebay for.....drum roll....£299 ! Looks a good deal? The reviews seem to be good so I have 'bought it now' and await delivery!
