We have just treated ourselves to a new Vango Evoque 600 with awning, and I was wondering whether you are supposed to treat a new tent with anything to extend it's life or leave well alone?

If it's a brand new tent then you certainly don't need to treat it with anything. If it's used then you only need to treat if there is a specific problem.

Leave well alone - it should be fine.

Take some seam sealant on your first trip just in case - water can bead through the sewing holes in the seams. Put the sealant on when needed (after the tent has dried).

Again dont put anything on it except water. You can pitch it give it a good soaking with a hose and check it doesnt leak before going off camping

Thanks for the advice, we're going to pitch it in the garden at the weekend to check it out. With our weather the hosepipe may not be required!

Just make sure it is totally dry before you pack it away, pay special attention to guy ropes, webbing straps and the underneath of the tent (SIG) as these will take longer to dry out.
