hi, in the quest for the tent that ticks all the boxes I am looking for some input. We are a family of 4, but looking at 5/6 berth so we are not on top of each other. Really like the tents that have a front canopy to be able to be outside, but with a little shelter. Hubby likes the Croyde 6, but I am not entirely convinced (too big, too much plastic). Can anyone suggest some suitable comparisons ? thanks

The Croyde 6 is a good sized tent for a family of 4, personally I wouldn't find it too big. If plastic is an issue you could look at the very similar but polycotton filey 6 classic

Would you consider polycotton? Obelink Familia 6 has 3 berths and a zip on porch. The sides can be rolled up to create a canopy and it has a full mesh front that can be zipped on to stop the bugs getting in. You can be inside and outside at the same time! .

We are a family of 4 and love it.

P.S Porch is easily big enough for a table, chairs and kitchen stand etc. We use it as our kitchen so all the smells go straight outside!

Agree with Shimmsie... Obelink are worth a serious look.

After a lot of thought, trawling here, etc we took the plunge on a Palamos 6 last year. Never seen one in the flesh but trusted others judgement and the fact that Obelink always answered any questions I've had really quickly and clearly.

Can't fault our Palamos for the money and looking at the Familia 6 it does look as if it would be a good choice.

Thanks for all the responses. Prior to this I kept coming back to the outwell options, but this opens up some new ideas.

Obelink are interesting, will take a closer look tonight. The new vango a with the porch are different, I would like to see one on a windy day ?!

Tents are so big these days. Some of these are huge.

Keep the options coming,please.

In my opinion for the price you cant go wrong with either the polyester Croyde 6 or the polycotton Croyde 6 classic

i would also agree with shimmsie and monster bear - the Dutch are masters at tents and the Obelink Familia looks fantastic. the variable sized awaning where you can increase tent space or awning space is a brilliant feature and coupled with the excellent service youll receive, if i was in the market for this kind of tent its exactly where id be heading straight for.

the vangos iv seen to date whilst ok, dont come close to the quality of dutch tents iv seen.

have a look at the obelink website yourself if you think these are too big - theres smaller models too. good luck with your choice and let us know what you choose in the end!

Funny I should come across your post as I'm looking to sell my Kampa Croyde 6. We bought it last year as it ticked all the boxes for what we wanted in a tent (plenty of space, light and airy, front canopy, easy to pitch etc). We used it for a long weekend and for a weeks break (2 adults and 2 children) and found it to be faultless.
So why am I selling it you may ask; well unfortunately that relationship ended and I now have no need for a tent of this size.

Croyde still seems to be coming up favourite. I think I may have to get over my concerns over the size and do it as we are getting dangerously close to the half term hols. Outwell whitecove would suit me fine as well but it water resistance is less.

Panzer attack : where are you located ?

Where are you, ideally you want to see the Croyde and Whitecove next to each other.

We are in surrey, and yes you would think that seeing 100 plus tents put up (as we did the last 2 weekends) would make decisions easy, I think too much choice. Croyde is the practical choice, whitecove and even with no canopy a Nevada keep coming up. Or just blow the budget and get a Newgate.

Depends which part of Surrey you are in.

Frensham, beside Farnham has lots of large family tents at a garden centre if you Google farnham camping it will bring up the name. We went last year aafter we had bought and used our tent and were happy with our choice. Seemed to have lots of polycotton

We have a Van go Tigris 800xl with a side porch where we keep food, cook (or outside), and keep shoes and food stuffs. Would recommend this maybe the 600xl as there are less of you than us.

Basingstoke jct 6 I think has the Go outdoors with a tent display. This had the white cove up I think.

Can't think of any more tent displays round here.
