Hi all

Just bought a Vango Aspen 700 - my first tent.  Suppliers (Camperland) provided a "what to do first" list - which said we need to weather the tent.  Any idea what this means?

Paul

Pitch it, spray it with water, let it dry naturally.

I always thought weathering was for canvas tents? The only thing that might leak on a nylon tent is prolly the seams?

Hah - well ours certainly got 'weathered' this w/e!  Didn't know you were supposed to do that with the new tents.

Hi Paul, only canvas/cotton needs to be 'weathered'.

Your tent is made from a synthetic material, it has a waterproof film on the inside and should have taped seams. Therefore it will not need weathering and should not leak.

Hi Paul.

When we bought our first tent we were told to weather it so we pitched it in the garden for a few days.  We were lucky in that we had enought rain for us to know it wasn't going to leak.

We're trying a new tent out in a couple of weeks time, and won't get the chance to check for leaks until on site (thought hopefully we won't have any rain).  Just going to arm myself with seam seal, fabsil - and a diddy emergency tent in case I've got the one that leaks like a seive.

Seriously a good tent is unlikely to leak.
