Hi
I posted last night to get any suggestions on tents. I've been up most of the night researching also (so now completely lost). We will camp mostly in hot climates (Italy, Croatia, Sth of France) so need a tent with plenty of ventilation. I've read that I should try to avoid ones with plastic windows etc and go for ones with mesh windows (e.g. Zempire Hubble).
However, we will use it also in switzerland where there is a bit more chance of rain and cooler up the mountains (albeit far dryer than the UK).
As we're english, i keep looking at the UK websites and wondered if anyone had advice of staying in very hot climates and the type of tent needed??
Many thanks, Jammidge

Hi jammidge, just looked at your other post as well, I see you live in Switzerland and may also be camping there.
Personally I would look firstly at cotton or polycotton tents, as polyester tends to get very hot, plastic windows or not. I thought the zempire type tent were aimed more at the very dry American market but could be wrong( if I am, someone will point it out!).
A bell tent is quick to erect, and you can roll the sides up if it's not SIG. But you'd have to buy an inner if you wanted separate sleeping area.
A pyramid might be an option? Plenty on Dutch websites which may be easier for you to ship as well.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge of specific tents and links will be along to advise, it's a bit quiet on here as half term, but you will get lots of help and advice soon!
If you want to spend £600, you should get something in polycotton. All you really want is a tent of the size you want at the price you are prepared to pay. This hot weather/cold weather tent thing is a red herring. An expensive canvas tent is better that a cheap nylon tent in any conditions, cold or hot, plenty will be camping in Croatia in cheap nylon tents because that is what they can afford.
£600 should get you a polycotton tunnel tent of the size you want so go for that.
Concur with cotton canvas being cooler than nylon/PE tents in the heat.

Hi,
I also agree with the poly vs cotton tents in that the cotton is much much cooler but will also be warmer in the cooler months.
I also agree that Obelink in Holland have some good tent in your price range. Vrijbuiter is another Dutch shop but their site is all Dutch but plenty translation sites out there.
Also check what ventilation the tent has as this can also make a difference . Not sure if it will make a difference for you if mosquito's/insects will be a problem so look for doors which also have fly screens because if you can leave the material doors open but keep covered with fly mesh this will also help with the heat & air circulation.
Don't worry your not going mad!! I think we have all had those very long nights & days searching for what we want, need or just plain can't do without.
I'm sure you will find something to suit & when you do just enjoy your home from home .

It has a full zip on mesh panel on the front porch section. This would be great for you as you could get air flowing through the tent all the time whilst still having the tent enclosed/zipped up. It obviously also stops the bugs getting in. If you were going somewhere cooler you could opt to leave the porch at home and still have a good sized tent.
It is polycotton which means it is quite heavy but we love it.
