After much deliberation I finally bought one only to see two recent reviews that are far from complimentary. We've not used ours yet - the first time will no doubt allay or confirm my fears.

Anyone have good objective views on these massive tents and whether they are up to the job v's conventional poled systems?

Marty.

Thanks Peek, I'd be keen to hear from those among us that have used their Eclipse quite extensively - may be on trips for 7 or more days.

I think you're right, all tents do have their negatives and less than good reviews but it seems that there's some real basic quality issues being reported.

at Peek268, you'll love it. we used ours last weekend and all went according to plan. I'd have no hesitation recommending it to those thinking about buying one.

Massive space, sturdy, eye catching and without any of the dreaded and feared quality issues!

Hi we have the eclipse with the extra sun canopy
this is by far the best tent we have owned,it is so easy to put up and peg out, 3 large bedrooms large lounge with loads of light.
easy to take down and dont take any notice
of it being hard to get into bag, we have used it 4 times and each time it went straight into bag
my wife and i are both 62yrs old and would easy recommend this tent.only thing i would like to see is an electric pump for when we reach 70
go and get one,try Gary at cross camping

We have bought the Eclipse 500 today to replace our Vango Icarus 500 which was beginning to show its age, a few leaks and tears.
Put it up in the garden straight away and nicely surprised that it is as easy as it says to put up and down.
Cant wait to try it out in France in August.

A little update;

We had the Eclipse away all of last week, brilliant time had by all and the tent performed well. I've had to raise a couple of small niggles with Vango and I think it's only fair to give them a chance to rectify them before sharing it all on here - my dealings with them thus far have been nothing but positive.

We had rain for a whole night - dry as a bone!

We had a saggy beam (beam 4). The guy at Vango recommended inflating it to 9psi, we did and it solved the problem.

I'll keep you all posted on how I get on.

Marty... We gave ours it's first run out at the weekend and was very impressed ..... Can't wait for a week in Cornwall to really put it through its paces.

We had some Grimm weather overnight with not a drop of a leak in the morning.

My only niggles are that I'm struggling to secure my rope lights onto the beams without making a hole in the sleeves and that I think the why in point should be near the front of the tent not where it is.

We used our eclipse for two weeks in the dordogne and one week in Cambridge last year and absolutely loved it. Lots or space, easy to get up and down. Would not change it for anything.

at Peek, good to hear you were kept dry. By rope lights do you mean fairy lights to give a nice low level of lighting spread all around the tent. If so, we use them too. In the Eclipse we had the same problem, nowhere to attach them to.

I never leave home without a bag of clothes pegs when going camping, and as usual they solved my problem. I used them to suspend the rope lights from the pelmet. They're dead light (no pun intended) so don't pull at all. On your note about the EHU entry point, yip, I agree, one of them towards the rear on the right hand side does seem a bit meagre. It didn't work for me this time so I simply brought it in through one of the Airbeam valve zippers and closed it tight.

No not the fairy light sort but encased rope lights that are fully waterproof....give off great light but are a bit heavy so trying to find a suitable clip to hold them up .....
