I'm looking for a family tent and after recommendations. I've a budget of about £250 - happy to buy new or second hand, to get a decent tent that could last a fair few holidays into the future.

The tent is for camping with my husband and dog, but hoping in the future it may also accommodate a family as well . So I've been looking at 4 - 6 man tents.

Living (and regularly camping) in Scotland there are some features I am after:
- Sewn in groundsheet
- A mesh door or two - to keep those pesky midges at bay but still be able to have a nice breeze if having to sit inside.
- Nice big windows at the front to sit and look at the rain (I am more optimistic than that sounds) with bedrooms at the back
- Living area that is spacious enough for chairs, table and the dog.
- Big enough to stand in
- Robust enough to be able to deal with a bit of bad weather

I was looking at the Outwell Montana 6 but then realised it doesn't have mesh doors to the outside (just the bedrooms). The Vango Langley 500 seemed like it would have all I needed but worried that it may not last that long.

I would be very grateful for any recommendations about brands or specific tents to look at.

Also I should say I love camping, my husband less so - so I am hoping that this next camping holiday in a bit more comfort than a two man tent will persuade him otherwise!

Thank you for reading!

Have a look at the Kampa Croyde, may be just what you are after.

I bought the vango mira 500 this year (think it was only made last year. Living and camping in scotland I ha the same needs as you. SIG, insect screens on both doors, large living space as we camp with our grandchildren. It also has steel poles which was another must for us. Plenty of windows, bedroom/s at the back. Easy to put up and all for £249. There's also an enclosed canopy you could buy so you've lots of space when the kids appear!

There's probably lots of tents out there that will suit your needs and your budget. It took me about 4 attempts to get the right one. Good luck.

To be honest Vango tents and some others, if looked after are as good as the more expensive brands.
Generally it will only be used 2-6 weeks per annum so not really a lot when you think about it.

I have two Vangos 30+ years old and still used.

I've got an Outwell Newport L ; discontinued now but some are still available .

It's got a full inner ,the doors have mesh inner doors , there's a huge big window at the front , with a full mesh if you want to unzip the front . Loads of living area , easy to put up ( I pitch it solo )

Took me ages to decide which one I wanted , wasn't too sure till I went away ; had 2 trips away so far ( 10 nights in total ) , had torrential rain , sun and wind and it's been great

Can't wait to go again !

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions! I'd already spent ages looking at countless tents - and hadn't seen any of these. All of them could be good - now I just need to make up my mind!! Oh and hope this sunshine lasts.....
