Right - to answer Mucker's questions as best I can...
Q: I presume the mesh has pegging points, to stop the bottom edge flapping?
A: I think it does - it would rather make sense, wouldn't it? More on that in my trip report.
Q: So you can [roll the side wall of the extension up on] both sides?
A: Yes
Q: Plus have the very wide door on the side of the tent itself open?
A: Yes
Statement: Excellent!
Response: Agreed!
Q: I presume the [side] door [of the main tent] is just to one side? Not another one opposite?
A: That's correct, just the one side door and the one front door.
Finally - I think you might be right about the strap / buckle thing. It may well be there to take the strain from the zip when the sides are rolled up.
